Where can you buy a used petrol 5 series in Ireland ? Just searched cbg and carzone. Not a single 2009+petrol model for sale and only one 2008 car.

Its pretty sickening alright, Not alone that but not too many 6 cylinder diesels around either.

Petrol cars in that size don't sell here anymore. Post 2008 petrol models from any of the premium brands will be thin on the ground. Your best bet is the UK but the VRT and exchange rate will sting.

It is understandable though. I mean why would you want one? The performance figures for 6 cyl and 4 cyl petrol and diesel engines in non M model BMWs since 2008 are pretty much identical and the diesel engines have more torque, better fuel economy and depreciate a lot slower. So why would anyone buy a 520i or 530i instead of a 520d or 535d?? Unless you live in texas or abu dhabi and petrol is 20 cents a litre.

A 6 cylinder bmw petrol sounds beautiful and is more refined.

I wasn't expecting many cars but zero in the last 4 years is incredible.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    I've owned a 530 (8 cylinder) and a 520 (6 cylinder). Both petrol. Nowadays 99% of all 5 series sold here are 4 cylinder and diesel :(

Do you own a petrol 6 or 8 cylinder now in daily use? Petrol is twice what it was and large V8s are the preserve of the wealthy or cars that have little use. Unless youve cash to burn youd think twice about say a 200 mile trip driving a V8 where as in a 50 mpg diesel you might not. Ive pondered buying a V8 as a novelty but couldnt see myself driving one day to day long term.

When was it half today's price?
    I have a fair idea.

    I do 10k to 15k miles per annum in a petrol V6.

If you are relying on pumps.ie for your fair idea you may well be buggered :)

I was paying 70p stg in the UK in late 2000 I think, it started going up from then on. Id say it was around 75 Cent then in Euros as petrol was always a little dearer over there. Not that long ago really when you think about it. Id say in another 10 years it will be around 3 euros a litre the way its going. I suppose the ordinary Joe should enjoy a V8 or even V12 while he still can. The future is undoubtedly 1.6 turbo diesels for the most part with 1.8s being fitted to Mid end cars, and 2 Liters to high end executive machines.

Was IR 63p/litre ish in 1999, in 2003 it was about €0.85/litre ish, has risen from then, doubling over 9 years roughly.

(no info from pumps.ie used in that post ;) )

Pumps.ie does give historical prices though. Whether they go back as far as 1999 I don't know. I will let you check that.

I never said they didn't give historical prices, I know how far they go back and it's not to 2003 :D

I have f all intention of checking anything on pumps.ie :)

That's a bit unfair, r.o.r has proved his knowledge many times over the years here.

Ive been monitoring a particular petrol car myself and keep finding myself in a dead end. God damn greens started this

Well all you seem to do is pedantically argue with other posters in a very condescending manner.

I was reading the most recent 159 thread this morning and it was same thing RJ. These threads are from OPs who are looking for geuine advice, and then the thread becomes completely derailed over frankly ridiculous arguments, whilst you throw the odd dig here and there insulting the other poster's intelligence. (Yes I do know the difference between past and present tense FYI).

I said you can check pumps.ie yourself as you don't seem to have a problem on other threads going to this length to prove your point.

Unfair me hole, fling a w@nkerish comment at someone ("Perhaps because RJ knows all, or is that, he's a right know it all?) and a retort like mine is quite fair.

Proved his knowledge? Of what? The standard spec on a superb?

Oh bummer, another Alfa fan boy :pac:

Perhaps have a look at the 4 post poster who seems to have signed up to troll, that's who I was speaking to in a condescending manner.

Do you have to ruin every thread?

    It's becoming a trend.

I look at most threads on motors and when you participate it becomes farcical.

Is there a way of making RoverJames post's invisible?

Anyway I can see the attraction in getting a newish shaper 04 - 07 520i, 170bhp and cheap compared to diesel version.

Very modern looking for a 04 too, pity they are a 2.2 though.

    Helping the OP is it?

The irony is a tad overpowering.

Oh bummer as you appear to be another alfa fan boy with a bee in his bonnet, you have an issue with what went on in another thread and you're bringing it in here :) Very sensitive type if you consider that a dig.

Or is it that you have a bee with a few Alfa fan bois on here?

and it's your conduct in the majority of forums that is the issue, not just the Alfa ones..

I've done enough winding RJ up for tonight. I hope your Christmas wasn't too lonely RJ :)

My conduct on the majority of forums? don't have a clue what you're on about.

You consider you're posts on this thread winding me up? You've come across like an upset school boy as someone reckons your bike is a piece of sh1t :) lol at you admitting you were trying though, it was apparent that's all you were at so it's nice to see you admit it :)

Lonely? I'm having a great day with family :)

To be fair dude I've a lot of time for most of your posts but you bring an awful lot of this on yourself, your constant 'clique' comments can be quite irritating too. When a lot of people call you out it may not mean they ate a clique, it could just mean you act like a pedantic ass from time to time.

I'm off back to finish the bottle :) have a good Christmas lads :)

I like it. How is the interior space compared to a 5 series ?

I haven't sat in the XF but I cannot imagine it being any less roomy than the E60 which imo does not have a vast interior. Defintately worth looking into especially at that price. The XF also has the advantage of being rare on the road and all are generously equipped.

Watch out for flood damaged ones, there were a few that were caught up in the floods in Dublin last year. Look for mould on the seat belts as a first check anyway.
