NCT Question - Is a spare wheel required?

Just wondering if it's necessary to have a spare wheel for an NCT?
I would have thought so, but a friend just purchased a UK import. The vrt & NCT were done on Tues, but when he received the car with the new NCT from the dealer, the spare wheel was missing!
The sale was subject to a valid NCT.
    Thanks

No it is not, I have my car converted to LPG with a donut tank in the sparewheel well and I put it through the NCT two weeks ago and there was no mention of the spare wheel being missing.

I doubt it's a requirement. Smart fortwo cars have none.

Is it a full fail, or a fail advisory if its flat/bald etc?

Just like having a child seat in the car...if the spare is present, it will be checked and can be failed if in poor condition.

These are the only 2 points regarding spare wheels in entire NCT manual:

It is a requirement in a taxi/hackney to have a full sized spare wheel..

(Don't know how those taxi drivers with cars using run flat tyres manage when it comes to the NCT).

There must be atleast 2 thirds of 2008 onwards cars without a full size spare wheel or else they have the tyre inflation kit or runflats. Not many cars at all come now with full size spare.

I was advised to have a bottle of tyreweld clearly visible in the boot before my last nct by a mechanic as I have run flat tyres.
