    Other than in the rollover all crashes are set up so that the Volvo avoids hitting the most rigid areas of its "victims"

    That's true. Also re: the Micra crash, all cars are relatively vulnerable if hit hard from behind and prevented from moving forward by a solid object. This is a regular occurence in banger racing where one car is up against the wall, is hit and folds alarmingly. While the car that hit it often drives away.

    There's no doubt that the Volvo 850 was a safe car in its day and much safer than cars like the K10 Micra. I believe the 850 is also liked by banger racers. However other cars from the same era could be just as "tank" like for these sort of stunts. Eg Mk1 Mondeos and Vauxhall Omegas
