Issue picking up freesat on Synaps box

I currently have a sky box in my main living area(all the free uk channels are obviously coming through this...bbc, itv, channel 4 etc no problem). In a second room I just got a synaps TSHD 2870+ combo box, saorview is working fine from the aerial, but I cannot get the freesat uk channels tuned in properly, the sat cable is coming from the same dish/lnb as the main living area so I presume it is pointing to astra 28.2e so I presume there are no issues on that front as I get the channels on the sky box? I am searching via a default option of Astra2 28.2E but all I get are channels like CNN, sky news(no bbc, itv)etc, also I have tried this search on a neighbours house and it picks up all the uk freesat channels straight away, any suggestions would be great?

Are you connected to the dish by a separate cable? if so it could be a faulty cable, or a faulty LNB. Why not just scan in from your other point (Where sky box is)

Hi snaps.....yeah it is a separate cable, I did try a scan from the sky box room but had the same result , I.e I could only get CNN, sky news , loads of foreign channels, but no itv, bbc etc, so I think the cable, lnb should be fine

Try a manual scan & see what happens.
(posting from mobile so appologies on format of link).

Hi shinobi, I have tried the manual scan also with the settings you provided but no luck, the more I think about it the more it seems dish/lnb related, as I said the sky box picks up the channels in the other room so it's confusing, is there any reason why a sky box would be more likely to pick up the fta channels? Or is the there a 'subscription' version of bbc, itv etc? I would assume not

If it is a quad LNB you could try connecting the cable to a different port on it. These channels are all FTA and dont require a subscription.

have you checked the lnb setting on the box, is universal lnb selected.

Please see the attached jpeg for the configuration for my search, if I take the combo box into the other room where the sky box is, and use that cable I still don't get bbc, itv, channel 4 etc, even though it works fine on the skybox

Just getting back to this issue, haven't looked at it since Christmas, one question I had, if Channel 4/ITV/BBC all work fine on the Sky Box and the cable for the Synas box is coming from the same LNB, does this at least confirm that the sky dish/LNB are pointing in the correct direction? I assume it does, I just don't want to rule out the possibility that the dish/LNB needs repositioned

The lnb type should be set as 09750/10600, rather than 09750/10750.

The latter setting shouldn't affect Freesat channels though, as they're all in the low band (09750 local oscillator setting), so no real help to your problem.

It's possible you just have a poorly aligned dish & the Sky box can make better use of the poor signal for these channels.

Skull Murphy has touched on the problem I reckon. Not only are the Local Oscillator settings wrong, but the fact that are only bringing in CNN (12051MHz) and Sky News (12207MHz) suggests that the LNB is only bringing in channels on the high band (due to 22KHz being 'ON').

    1. Can you go through the all the options in the 'LNB Type' and see if there is a setting for 'Universal'? If yes, then that should solve your problem.

    2. If there is not 'Universal' option, then set 'LNB Type' to '9750/10600' and flick through the options for '22KHz' and see if there is an 'Auto' setting. If not, set it to 'Off' and then try a search for the Freesat channels.

Apogee/Skull_Murphy, I will try your suggestions this evening when I get home and report back......Thanks!

Apogee, I think changing the 22hz to auto was part of the problem as when I tried it in the room with the sky box it worked straight away thankfully. However, I still could not get any great signal strength in the room that it was intended for. After a a few hours of playing around with it I discovered that the 20m of RG6 cable that I bought with the box, was either faulty, or just didn't carry a strong enough signal. Anyway, after I got the new cable ran to the dish, the signal strength jumped to 100% and it worked. A bit annoying considering it was a new cable, so it was the last thing I thought would cause an issue, anyway, thanks all!
