reversing camera

Does the reversing camera reverse the image so that it is the same orientation as if looking through a mirror, or does it display what the camera sees, giving a view as if you were looking over your shoulder.
I was just wondering this as we are conditioned to react to mirror images.
for instance, if using a rear view mirror and an object appears on the right of the mirror, we know it is to the right of the car.
However, if using a camera that displays what it sees, then the object on the right of the screen is actually to the left of the car.

    1) I don't have a car with a rear view camera.
    2) Don't start talking shíte about your supposed to do this that and the other when reversing.

Usually it displays it as you'd see it in the mirror.
I've never seen it any other way.

The Durite ones I've used can be set up either way.

You need to get a camera that sends a mirror image. If not it will be worse than useless. Anything advertised as a reversing cam will do this. This is something I never even thought about until I was installing a reverse cam myself recently.

    Waste of money.

Just learn how to park, practise makes perfect.

Well I love reversing in those places where you can see a bollard behind you and then it dissappears from view. Practice means stopping then despite how much space you mght have.

Practise and you will be able to judge distance, but I suppose some people have bad spacial awareness and might be safer for them to have some help.

Mine shows up a mirror image. Very handy to have. You can see loads more than you ever will with the rear view mirror

I think any decent ones will have the options for both really depends on the kit your looking at, do you have any links to any one's in particular?

Decent monitors have the facility to reverse the image.

I have a monitor built in to the mirror on my 110, better than a separate monitor and combined with a decent CCD camera is very effective. Can see look of horror on other drivers face when I nose my NATO hitch to within a few mm of their front bumper :D

Bought from here, good advice and very helpful http://www.reversingcamerasuk.co.uk/

Never used one until I drove a car that was nearly twice the size of what I was used to.
It was hugely useful. Also having a HUD in the rear view made me feel like a fighter pilot ;)

If I was to change up to a larger car I'd seriously consider one.

Oh and it displayed a mirror image, in the rear view mirror!
Showed way more than the rear view mirror alone.

This is mine. It's fantastic and the car has factory fitted sensors so I'm well set up.

Is this a replacement mirror or standard factory fitted

Audi A5. The screen is factory fit but the reverse camera i added myself using xcarlink device and an aftermarket camera. The markings displayed are static and are just sent from the camera itself. I believe with the factory option, those lines move with steering angle etc but as I said, mine are just fixed. They worked out very nicely though with the red mark just running along my bumper as you can see. The xcarlink also allows me to connect other devices to the screen.
