I really must look for that series on ebay or amazon.
I remember hating it as a Kid and not liking the main characters
but loved the bad guy "Relic" played by a Canadian actor Robert Clothier.

Andy Sirkis sometimes reminds me of the character Relic for some reason.

I remember liking the intro with the logs floating in the water. However that was about all. I always turned it off when the actual show started.

OK. I remember Nick Adonidas. He was Greek. A long haired Indian guy.
And I loved the theme music to the show at the time.

Used to watch it occasionally. Never loved it.Had no choice.

Only had one channel on our black & white telly back then!

Did they have those planes with the big feet that could land on water in it?
I remember an ep where a young boy takes off in one with somebody else by accident and his da has to talk them down over the radio.
Or am I thinking of something else.

Hated it - but my younger brother was obsessed on it - he was 4 I think at the time...

Personally I kinda liked it, but then again I was born in a country* with one TV station that ran for nine hours per day. So the alternative was a bit limited. If it wasn't "Feach", "Mart and Market", or "Trom Agus Eatrom" then it was good TV for the time.

*For anyone under 35, that's Ireland.

God I'd forgotten about Trom agus Eatrom, there was SBB in a Shuí as well.

I didn't like the Beachcombers much when I was younger but over time I started to enjoy it. Relic was easily the best character in it, Nick and Jesse were kind of boring and so was their boat whereas Relic was kind of mean and evil and he had a speedboat.

Reading Robert Clothiers wiki entry it looks like he was a bit of a hero during World War 2, unlike the dastardly Relic :D

    Trom agus Éadrom....Féach.....SBB......
I'll be having nightmares tonight now!

    I remember The Beachcombers(:o).
Don't know if this was wishful thinking, but I seem to recall an episode where someone lost their balance on the logs and drowned under water?
Might have happened more than once.

There were 300+ episodes, I'd say it happened quite a lot!

I barely remember it, but living in one channel land (when the atmospherics allowed) we spent a good part of the summer holidays rambling through the woods and along the riverbanks picking up all kinds of useless $h!te,.

And Lo! A series that told us we could make a living out of it!? We didn't have to go back to school? Summer could last forever?

    I loved it.

I remember watching this as a kid. I remember I didn't like the long haired Indian fella. Jesse, I think? I was petrified of men with long hair:o

A friend of mine's mother claimed to be in some way related to the writer or *something* of the show and they apparantly made very handsome money in royalties back in the 70's.

My favourite charcter was the ner-do-well Relic and i later went on to nickname a bloke i used to work with after him...he wasnt happy about it either.

Ah never really liked beachcombers but I do remember one episode when the main character (if I bothered I could find out his name) needed a new company car but ended up buying a sports car. The other charactors tried to use it as a company car by trying to load work stuff in the boot. In the end he traded it for a jeep wrangler and the last scene he was airborne in the jeep shouting yeehaa
