one of my favs has to be baron blakeney, simply because he won the triumph hurdle in the early 80,s .81 or 82 not sure. he was 66/1 and i had 1 old punt e/w! another was scot lane who i always followed, rarely won, but then he goes and wins the the ritz trophy again in the early 80,s at 20/1. he won it the following year as well. then there is everyones fav i think, the great desert orchid. what a horse! i,m sure every racing fan has a fav, or a few favs for what ever reason.

First post in here, this thread just gave me cause to reminisce. Not too much historical knowledge of many horses and dont back them anymore.

But Giants Causeway was my fav way back when. He jusy never gave up. When the other horses started going wide of him so as to be out of eyeshot i remember thinking "fcuking cheaters!". Good times.

Sure everyone has a favourite horse for financial reasons but please keep this thread after-timing free nodbody cares if you had mon mome at 100/1 in the national or what ever he was.

My favourite is probably lough dearg or Denman two absolute grinders.

I totally agree. Always see these threads filled with successful punts.

I never bet Giants Causeway. Never won a cent off Sea The Stars. I did win off Sunnyhillboy but theres more to it than that. Weekend Hussler got me into horse racing (Aus). Ouija Board and Snow Fairy are up there too - glamourous jetset ladies of the horse racing world.

My fav race horse of all time is Moscow flyer, he was just electric! closely followed by istabraq, Kauto Star and Sea The Stars. I got really excited when these horses ran, they were just something special.

Anyone guess the horse from the awesome commentary

'And he says go on --- who's jet propelled at the last, --- 6 or 8 lengths clear and pulling further away from .......

And --- is storming up the Cheltenham hill here in the hands of Richard Johnson, and --- wins the Champion Hurdle'

    Best day ever

My favourite horse isn't one that much people have heard of but goes by the name of Murura. Landed the biggest bet of my life at 12/1 and he was definitely going to be a horse capable of challenging for Group 1s this season but he unfortunately suffered a life ending injury on Kevin Ryan's gallops earlier this year. Devastated as I felt he was going to make up into a top class sprinter (I rated him better than Maarek who has gone on to achieve a Group 2 win this year).

I have selected a top three of my favourite races that stirred up strong emotions of delight irrelevant to any betting gain. 1.The first has to be Denman when he won his gold cup. I found that performance truly amazing, even though Kauto's mistakes surely helped somewhat. 2.Has to be Hurricane Fly's win in punchestown in April 2009. He had no gap to go through but Ruby just barges through them all and cruises to victory. Nearly laughable but the speed he showed was unbelievable. Could have been in trouble with the stewards if he didn't win by so much.3. Back to Denman when he landed his second Hennessy gold cup. A brilliant weight carrying performance and the "tank" at his best. Definitely one of my favourite horses of all time. Just disappointed that he never got the chance to go down the National route. It would have been interesting to see how he would have got on.

Favourite jumper without doubt The Fellow.

Beaten a short head as a 5yo in the 91 Gold Cup - started 10/1 for the King George that year (when he should have been 2/1) soley IMO due to anti french bias of the oddsmakers and many punters at the time.

Beaten a short head again in 92 Gold Cup before finally comming good in 94. The race fell on Paddys day and I did something I had never done before or since and loudly cheered one home from about a mile out. I still have the Racing Post of the following day - headline was simply "AT LAST!"

Forpaddydeplaster, just love everthing about him. And, "the tank" absolute memorable henessy win which summed him up winning carrying that weight.

    86 Gold Cup.

    Dawn Run.

Danoli winning the Novice Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Denman esp around cheltenham was a joy to watch and blowing
the opposition away in the hennessey carrying top weight

montjeu was sensational and winning the irish derby without
coming off the bridle was a sight to behold
on his day he was brilliant

dubai millennium winning the dubai world cup was one of the
best performance in a top competitive race you could ever
wish to see, such a shame his career finished early

Surprised there's been no mention for Master Minded yet.
The definition of electric for me.

Brave Inca and Imperial Commander are two personal faves for me too.

Has to be The Llandudno Donkey Derby 1982, 8 runners and i came second.

Scary as hell, having 8 Donkeys running a lap and they go fast too, if ya fell off you were toast

Moscow Flyer for me. Also a big Zenyatta fan and had high hopes for Uncle Mo, was phenomenal as a 2yo.

A bit obvious but it has to be Arkle for me. Drapers yard is only about 200 yards away from my parents house and when you look out the back window you can see the horses on the gallops early in the mornings.

The Minstrel with his white socks and all.

Will always remember the commentator roaring "but here comes The Minstrel"
Everyone in the factory were O Brien/Piggott supporters. We had to get to the bookies before he skipped town there was so many on the winner.

Apart from that I use to really enjoy Sea Pigeon and Shergar

A few years ago Aidan O'Brien had a wonderful filly called Alexandrova. She was a machine. Loved watching her run.

Favourite jumps horse is danoli. Know the owner and he was trained 2 miles from my mothers home-place in Carlow.
