Triax 114 Signal Dropping out

    Hi all,

I have a single satellite dish with duel lnb feeding two boxes. One being a sky box and the other a Triax 114. The combi box is up stairs, signal strength is 50% and the quality is 98%.
My problem is that the combi keeps dropping out losing signal.
Is my set up wrong, in so far that one of the boxes should be powering the lnb's?

Can anybody advise on the what the set up should be.

    Thanks for your help.

Hi I have the Triax HD-537 just looking at Film 4 right now i have signal quality is 99% & signal strength is 60% much the same on all FTA channels. I have a sky box & 2 FTA boxes coming from a quad LNB (one coax wire to each) with absolutely no problems and they are all about the 60-70% mark. Maybe your dish is out of alignment a little? Am presuming you are having the problem with the satellite feed & not the saorview side of things?

    Hi seaniefr,

No, the signal downstairs is slightly better, the upstairs run is longer, perhaps this is the problem. I'm just looking at the signal strength on the downstairs box and this varies slightly but TV doesn't drop out.

I think in the new year I'll have to get a direct run from the dish to the bedroom.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Hi all,

Last night and this morning when the combi dropped out (satellite only), I disconnected the antennae connector and reception came back straight away.

    What am I doing wrong?

By antennae connector you mean the Saorview arial?
Maybe there is cable damage or a bad termination somewhere along the route or a bad connecton to the arial. Am presuming it will work fine without the Antennae connector which seems to point towards a problem with the saorview side of things. Did you have to boost the signal from the arial?
Am looking the my HD-537 box now on the saorview side and have 99% signal strength & 80% signal quality.

    Hi seaniefr,

It's the satellite side that's giving the problems. This morning when I removed the F-connector the satellite signal came back straight away with no problem for the rest of the morning. Yesterday I changed the connectors on the cables upstairs and from wall tv type connector to f (both plug and socket). This brought the signal up by 3%.

Even though the signal varies slightly it shouldn't drops out altogether.

    The terrestrial side is fine.

    Thanks again.

With any suspected LNB fault you should unplug the receiver, disconnect the cables from the LNB and make sure the copper wire is bright and untarnished (cut off the end and refit the plug if necessary). Apply silicone grease to all bare metal - especially copper - to prevent corrosion, then reconnect. You'd be surprised how many signal problems are cured by doing this.

is it connected to a wall face plate? If so these can cause problems.
