Purely to provoke a reaction, and if you're not interested in reading a link this isn't for you, and here is the link:

Based on the current comedy thread I've been reminded of this quite valid article from the one and only Hitchens. Being funny, men vs. women. Not to be ridiculous about it but to look at it from a natural point. It's a woman that appreciates a man with a sense of humor. I think a sense of humor is a piece of armor in a womans debate against why the prettiest man isn't going to be the one always picked so it's interesting to see the corollary in entertainment.
To ignore any relationship would be utterly narrow minded. To address it would be exemplar.
To you then Boards. My OP is truncated, but to limit any nonsense.
Thoughts and opinions? A spoon to help stir the pot?

If Christopher Hitchens is so smart then how come he's dead?

Women are at their funniest when they are not trying to be funny.

Surely the fact he graduated from this existence is proof of his intelligence?

This is often true and I think goes more towards the genuine natural humour that women have.

There's a fair few good female comedy actors but very few good stand-ups.

Au Natural is best with Women's humor because in not trying to be funny ,they sometimes ironically are very ...

Men make women laugh so that women make men come, you see the trade off?

You've read the link in the OP? Have you?

Precisely because humor is a sign of intelligence (and many women believe, or were taught by their mothers, that they become threatening to men if they appear too bright), it could be that in some way men do not want women to be funny. They want them as an audience, not as rivals. And there is a huge, brimming reservoir of male unease, which it would be too easy for women to exploit. (Men can tell jokes about what happened to John Wayne Bobbitt, but they don't want women doing so.)
    This.

Victoria Wood tries hard and is very funny. Jo Brand too.

    Waits to get shredded...

I like to Jo brand, wouldn't ever shred you, but does she not just make a joke about her own weight every minute? I find her tough on QI. In the interests of gender equality I'm totally sick of Alan Davies. Really irritating fella at this stage. Hijacks other peoples jokes.

Couldnt think of one female comedian who would make me laugh tbh. Joe Brand has her moments but its usually something about being fat, old and unattractive to men.
Sarah Silverman will rise a chuckle sometimes but the Jewish thing is more suited to a US audience really.

my current favourite female comedian is Shappi Khorsandi
