Can anyone tell me if the Mallow-Fermoy road has re-opened yet? Or when it's due to re-open?

    Thanks.

Took down the cones on the Fermoy side this morning and traffic came through from the Mallow side.
Didn't travel it so not sure how much of it is open.

So you still have to go most of the way to Kildorrery before turning back to get to Fermoy?

You can go all the way to kildorrery, turn right in kildorrery after centra and that will take you all the way to fermoy.

    Sorry to burst your bubble.

I emailed the contractor at the start of the week and that's where the info came from.

    Not your fault :)

I was just hoping I wouldn't have to go through Mitchelstown yet again when heading to Waterford at the start of January. Used to much prefer going over by Fermoy/Dungarvan.

Was it opened over Christmas or something while the workers were on holidays?

As far as I know it opened again Christmas eve, and will close in the next few days.

Is it not possible to take the back roads south of Ballyhooly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,175 ✭✭✭Top Dog

Possibly - but I wouldn't know that route. So its either Mitchelstown or Fermoy for me.

Heading from Killarney to Tramore next weekend, would always go Mallow-Fermoy-Dungarvan etc, would i have to go all the way to mitchelstown to get to Fermoy? if so would ye think going Killarney-cork city-Dungarvan would be a better option?
    cheers:)

Have you tried looking at google maps?

    It says the following
    Killarney - Cork - Tramore will be 3hrs 11mins
Killarney - Mitchelstown - Tramore says 3hrs 3mins, but suggests you turn off the main road in Fiddown and head over the mountains!
    Killarney - Mitchelstown - Waterford - Tramore is also 3hrs 11mins
    Killarney - Mitchelstown - Fermoy - Tramore is 3hrs 15mins

I think I'd go via Cork if I were you. The road from Cork to Dungarvan is excellent. The Mallow-Dungarvan road is very bad.
