Four seals decapitated in Tramore :(

As the title says four seals have been killed in Tramore. This is beginning to be a worrying trend as seals were murdered in Wexford and Waterford. Some people in this country seem to view wildlife as something that gets in the way eg the sea eagle poisonings. This is particulary shocking to me as seals have shown humans remarkable kindness by saving people who were drowning and those who attempted suicide by jumping into water (golden gate bridge). I really dont see the point in this. It's making us look like neanderthals :(

The Irish Seal Sanctuary has expressed concern after a number of seals were found dead in Co Wexford and Co Waterford over the past few days.
Six carcasses were found near Fethard-on-Sea, one in Tramore and one near Dunmore East.
This afternoon a further four decapitated seals were found in Tramore.
All seals are protected under national and European law and the Irish Seal Sanctuary is trying to establish how these eight seals died.
The sanctuary is urging the National Parks and Wildlife Service to conduct an investigation into the seal deaths.
A spokesman for the ISS also appealed to the public to report any observed seal deaths to the sanctuary and to report any dead or injured seals found washed ashore.

Why decapitate them? Is it some kind of delicacy(or some other value)or just severe debauchery on the louts' behalf?

Possibly fishermen as the seals may be caught in nets or stealing fish from nets etc.

    Price of fuel sky high
    Insurance premiums would cripple you
Trying to compete with well equipped Spanish boats
    Government and EU bureaucracy

No, the fishermen know it's the seals fault :(

Far worse reasons imo. Sick misshapen minds. A regular person does not do this.

Inuits do it on a daily basis.

The cowardly ****ers that done this should be rounded up and suffer the same fate as these unfortunate seals.

P.S. hope our 'friends' that post here condemning the Galway turfcutters do likewise here.

Inuits do it on a daily basis.

For food, insulation, in order to start fires and for lighting (using the oil for lamps).

I came in to post the same thing. I'm pretty sure there was a similar case in Tramore earlier this year.

You'll find some fisher folk will attempt to explain this as unfortunate/wrong but understandable.

First thing that popped into my mind when I saw the thread, who would be motivated to do such a thing, fishermen is the obvious answer.

Not pointing the finger at anyone but that's the natural conclusion I came to.

But it's boggling, we have some of the richest waters in Europe, why would a seal sanctuary be top of the list for possible threats to income?

For me it's bottom of the list and if populations get out of control it's easily negated, so I'm even more baffled by these incidents.

But I guess a seal is a lot easier to tackle than a French or Spanish fishing vessel.

It almost seems like pub talk that went way too far.

Again not pointing the finger but some fishers have been less than happy that seals steal fish from nets. The vast majority of fishermen wouldn't do a thing like this though.
