Yes because it's from outside the EU.

Anyway it's illegal to own here as it is too powerful. Customs will destroy it when it gets checked here for tax.

I remember a thread on lasers a few years ago. There had been no legislation at the time. Can you link me to information on the official power restriction on lasers?
Do you know for certain that customs will destroy powerful lasers?
I got some powerful ones from hong kong 2 years ago with out any problem.
I didn't even have to pay tax as they were fairly inexpensive.

I have had green lasers stopped and destroyed by customs but some got through. I didn't know at the time they were illegal, customs told me only red lasers are legal for civilians to own in Ireland. Blue are more powerful than green as standard.

Items get through sometimes without tax that are under €40 but that limit dropped to €25 2 years ago.

Interesting that it's only reds that are allowed.
I will have a look for the legislation and see what I can find.

I still have not found an answer but you can get green laser pointers on adverts.ie

    http://www.adverts.ie/for-sale/q_Laser+Pointer/

Would they be there if green was illegal?
