Rim width vs Tyre width. How wide can I go?

Looking for a bit of advise.

I've a decent Mavic MA50 rims to 600 hubs but they were fitted with 25mm Schwalbe Marathons which I think are nearing the end of their useful life (back puncturing to regularly for my liking and when heading to an exam on wednesday last, the front turned out the be punctured)

Anyway, I was thinking of moving back to 32mm tyres (had them on different wider rims), the jarring ride of the 25mm at high pressures and pockmarked country roads has left me wishing for the larger tyres at a lower pressure.

Now, my rims have an internal width of about 15-16mm and Sheldon's site says it's fine with 32mm tyres, I'm just wondering if anyone runs a setup similar?

This guide advises that tyre widths should be 1.4 to 2.2 times the rim width:

So you should be OK with a 32mm tyre on 15-16mm rim.

I've run 35mm tyres (Schwalbe Kojak) on 15mm rims (Open Pro) with no issues.

Yeah, I've run 32 and 35 on that size. 35 is pushing it a bit, but 32's OK
