Self defence school insurance

    Hi All,

I'm trying to set up insurance for a Krav Maga school and have noticed that it's quite difficult to find a company that will offer public liability and personal accidents cover for a self defence school.

The one broker that said they can do it for me is ABC Insurance. They even mentioned that some Krav Maga schools are already insured with them. Me being a careful person when it comes to dealing with insurance companies thought I'd ask here, has anyone dealt with them before and can share their opinions on them?

I've found some posts on similar topics, but they were about 2 years old so thought I'll start a new thread, as a lot could have changed in that time.
Any info will be much appreciated!

I've insured with them (and still do) for karate clubs. They're good to deal with, and far more competitive than any alternative I've sourced.

Thanks Zen, that's good to hear.

Can you recall any of your students making a successful claim with them?

Are you setting up the school yourself or are you afilliated to a wider body?

If afilliated to a wider body (for example krav maga global) then maybe they could advise you on the best options regarding insurance or they might have a deal arranged.

Just a guess, the club I train with (karate) sorts insurance through their affiliated body afaik.

None of my students have had that kind of injury, thankfully.

I know one instructor who used that insurance company and had a claim for dental work which was handled well, AFAIK.

    Hi Greven,

I have found AMA-UK to be good. http://www.amauk.co.uk/

The offer public liability to instructors in the event of someone making a claim against them. It is £125 Sterling per year with an extra £5 per extra venue that the instructor teaches in. They can also provide you with a letter of indemnity which a lot of premises will request from you to start teaching.

They also offer member to member cover for each student in the event that one student sues the other. This costs £6 per student.

They also offer personal accident cover and this costs £9 per student. This is the price list for Eire.
    http://www.amauk.co.uk/downloads/documents/AMA-EIRE-Price-List.pdf

I find them useful for small groups so if you are starting off and only have 5 students for example, you only have to pay insurance for 5 students instead of a block payment for 20 students.

I also find them good to deal with and they respond to queries promptly. Any questions, feel free to give me a shout.

    Regards,

    Michael

    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to say thank you for all the replies.
I decided to go with ABC Insurance in the end. They do the same thing as AMA - both public liability and personal accidents cover.

    Once again,
    thanks for your help!
