Hi. I think I have a tooth abscess. I'm looking for a dentist in the Dublin/Kildare area. Also, I'm a medical card holder. Will that cover it, or will there an additional charge because it's the holiday period? Thanks.

Your medical card will cover an extraction, if you want to keep the tooth, it will need to be root canal treated, you will have to pay for this. Also, before you go, check that the dentist provides treatment under med card scheme, many do not.

    Ah thats a classic!
You're stating that you need 'a lot of work done that i will not be able to afford'. yet you're proposing a flight to eastern europe-not much change outa 300-400 euro, plus a hotel, plus the possible payment you'll have to make to a carer for your boys!

well tbh some of them offer free flights and accomidation. i would rather not have to leave ireland to get this done but the comprassions on price are making me think otherwise. some of the treatments are half the price outside of ireland

Have a look at the schemes covered by the medical card at www.hse.ie. Bear in mind that dental treatment under the medical card scheme has been severely curtailed in recent years. Blame Anglo.

Believe you me, Nobody is going to pay for flights and accommodation ANYWHERE for a few fillings. They'll examine you first and if they think you've the bucks will build this into the quote.
I remember a while back some estate agent was after chartering a plane to get padjos to fly free to dubai to buy apts. I've a funny feeling they weren't naive enough to send any eejit over looking for a free trip. It's the same with the dental tourist. Aint too much free in this life i'm afraid

Your entitled to free treatment under the medical card limited as it may be, anything else you can ask for a referral to the Dental Hospital who do more advanced work for the medical card.

The threat of going abroad is comical. That the threat of paying for it twice.
