    Simple enough question.

your starting point is not that something is a conspiracy. you use logic and decide whether it is.

Logic (more specifically Occams Razor). If it involves hundreds to thousands of people being silent for the rest of their lives (Moon Landing hoax theories, 9/11 theories) it can usually be dismissed out of hand due to the sheer impracticality.

well now nothing should ever be
    'dismissed out of hand'

but if after a bit of investigation the theory can be dismissed or refuted to a reasonable conclusion then it should be.

at that point you decide whether any aspects of the original theory still merit investigation and repeat the process, whatever remains unaccounted merits further scrutiny.

disproving a theory is just as valuable as proving one

If there's no Oil or Money or Sex involved, it's not a conspiracy. If there is, or possibly is, all bets are off.

well now there's an interesting theory, i'm sure there must be some example that disproves it

bear with me, i'll just check the databases

I think this thread is a conspiracy to discredit conspiracy theories and their little cousins, conspriracy hypotheses!

I'm afraid most of the regular posters in this forum start with everything is a conspiracy and then look back for coincidences and tenuous links to support it.

Very like people who look at modern events and link them to sh#te Nostradamus said hundreds of years ago.

Good thing we have self-proclaimed experts on people who post here -- like yourself -- to set the record straight so.

Logic is grand. But in here it seems to go out the window.
I actually don't think any thought goes into thinking it's a conspiracy or not.The instant a story makes news certain people are just predisposed to go "I wonder what really happened?"

This forum is a conspiracy set up by the US government with the connivance of the Irish government in order to have an outlet to guide people to the films etc which actually show the conspiracy clues that the governments sneak in in order to cast doubt on stuff so that other people will come along and be so keen to disprove the conspiracy clues it will make the events more believable. Except that the events were actually fraudulent and were only created to put a group that pretends it is a new world order in order to scare people into doing what they really want. I'm not sure what they really want but I know that is all true, there are so many clues to it being FACT.

Actually this forum was one of the better schemes as it was easy (if slow) to set up, just needed a request in the Forum Requests and it was granted. Thousands of the users are actually sophisticated computer generated identities in order to keep the overall site big enough to attract interest in the US and other countries. Most of the mods are also cg. This is obvious from the way they are always available online at any time of the night or day. It is also clear that the programs that run them are either not perfect, owing to the number of irrational decisions made, or this is deliberate to make them appear more humanly fallible.

When the group behind the NWO takes over, the indefatigable posters of the theories that are so essential to the smokescreen of the infiltration will be raised to high office and will be rewarded by grateful governments.

What do you mean 'when'? Thought they were already in power?
