    Hi.

i want to use my gas blow back pistol as a prop in a film for college but not shoot everyone on set since its 0.9j
someone said its bad to dry fire the gun but what exactly does that mean?
is that firing it without BBs and is it bad for the gun?
the only thing is when the mag is empty the slide stays back.
is it bad to fire it without gas in it so just the hammer moves?

i was hoping to get the slide to move in the shots so i wouldnt have to edit in every shot during editing

    thanks in advance

to get the pistol to cycle fully when there is no BB's in it, you cna just hold the slide release down, who ever fires the pistol should be able to hold it down while they're shooting and it shouldn't be too obvious to the untrained eye. TM have special inserts with their pistols to allow you to dry fire them. As for it being bad for the pistol, meh. Some will say yes, some no. Personally think it's down to how often you do it, the BB offers some resistance which is why dry firing a AEG is so bad, but if you were to fire a few times in a movie, don't think it would matter all that much.

You could take the spring out of the magazine either.

I was just going to suggest that. The only thing that causes a slide to lock back is a sprung latch in the mag physically pushing the slide lock up. If you remove the spring, the latch will stay down, and the gun will fire pretty much until you're out of gas.

Dry firing a GBB will be fine, wont effect it in the slightest, but like the lads said just do a mod to the slide lock or magazine, it's aegs that you shouldn't dry fire.

What you should do is just use a little clear tape to hold the slide release down :)
