Sale not registered by the dealer with motortax

Ok, I bought a car from a dealer 2.5 weeks ago. Long story short, the dealer has not even registered the sale online with the motortax office. Dont mind sending the documentation.

I spoke to them this week and they said they should do it this week but still...I dont see why it should take that long.

What is common practise? Is this timeframe acceptable or I should worry?

I never bought a car before so I am not sure if I should wait a bit longer, report them to the Garda or pay them a visit.

    Appreciate the advise.

2.5 weeks is not acceptable at all, imo. There's no justifiable reason for someone being too lazy to stick it in an envelope and send it out with the rest of the mail.

Some dealers can register the change of ownership online at www.motortrans.ie

I wouldn't just sit on it, I'd keep pushing them.
Doubt the Gardaí can do much other than make an enquiry which might give the dealer a little nudge.

    Is the car taxed?

The car is taxed until 12-2012, what adds to the pressure.

I am actually just back from the police station and they told me that if the dealer does not do Nanything about it I can initiate the process myself with the certificate I was given when I bought the car.

They also asked recommended to me to go to talk to the dealer in person.
