From the gist of the thread the N sounds like she's in a bad way.
Doubt if the NRM would like it, not 'sexy' enough.

Actually according to one of their "main men" they would like it but have no money to buy it. The N was ahead of it's time and where it led many influential types followed. Also with it's history, it would make an interesting museum exhibit.

I wouldn't take too much notice of people's opinions of it's condition, There is little that can't be done nowadays, just takes money. Also theres a huge amount of bad-feelings and controversy surrounding this and the other locos that goes back many years (indeed to the period when I was involved there,) and this wouyld have an influence on what condition people say it is in.

Either of the U class would do instead anyway from an Irish point of view as the last few here were built with 6'0" wheels were they not?

I'm up for it too.1000 euro isn't much for such a wonderful machine and it would save my liver from a 1000 euro's worth of damage!:D
