Hand throttle

Has anyone ever considered fitting some kind of a hand throttle in their car?
For those of us without the luxury of cruise control it would be the next best thing. On long motorway journeys my right foot gets really tired, now if I had a hand throttle I could relax and increase speed when I come to hills etc
Obviously you'd need to make it so it disconnects when the brakes are applied or you press the foot throttle.
    What do ye reckon?
Otherwise is it possible to retrofit cruise control to an old car with a manual gearbox?

I'd go with a retrofit of cruise control tbh. What type of car is it?

Part of a standard kit for mobility (lower limb) impaired people. Common enough.

OP I can only assume you're not in Ireland - motorway driving here really shouldn't be that bad on your right foot.

I had such a thing years ago in Fiat 125.

    Factory fitted. :P

What motorway in Ireland would you be on for 4/5 hours??

Cruise control is handy sometimes if you have it but in reality no-where in Ireland is really that far away.

Belfast - Cork is about 5 hours and it's mostly motorway and dual carriageway.

Doesn't matter whether I need it or not anyway, I still want one so I can pretend I'm flying an airplane.

Driving for 5 hours straight? Take a break every hour or so if your foot is going numb.

I often drive long distances and never got what you experience, both in a large comfy car and a low bumpy van

What car? Very easy to retrofit OEM cruise control on VAG models.
