    Hi,

Im just wondering of anyone on here has gotten a photographer to just take pictures, and then pass on the photos so that you can make up a wedding album by yourself?

The price to add on an album to the package just seems extraordinary to me.

Has anyone done this, and if you have, can you recommend a website that you used, or home software etc..?

    Many thanks, GB.

Most photographers will want to edit the photos before handing them over and again, most will offer "CD only" packages these days.

The price of albums tends to be expensive as high quality albums themselves are insanely expensive and any good photographer would be ensuring the photos were printed professionally on archive grade photo-paper so that your pictures won't fade over time.

The photography forum has a Services Wanted / Offered thread which could point you in the right direction.

there can be more work done on the post production than there is in shot staging and capturing moments on the day. Its a common mindset that photographers just print out the shots once they get home. hours are spent on professional equipment and software, getting lighting and contrast right. If your photographer is a professional he will have spent years studying and honing his post shot production skills. Even printing as sleepy says.

If you're only going to pay him for the shot side of it, and you may get someone to do that, its a waste of money for me, just get a friend to do it and hope for the best. And no problem, some budgets only stretch that far. It is what it is, just dont undersell the post production part of the camera work.

I got CD only package from my photographer and was delighted I did. Now the photographer is very popular and we'll recommended so it wasn't cheap cheap option. What I loved though was that I could print off copies for nannies/mammies etc and make them little photobooks for little cost whereas friends who didn't paid a large sum for copies of these photos.
I made an album on shutterfly.com. black leather cover really thick paper cost 200 dollars. I don't think its as great quality as what sleepy is talking about but it looks really lovely and I loved designing it myself. Huge amount of work though.

So you're looking for a photographer or software solution?

We got full digital rights to our photos. Our photographer's album and prints package was reasonable so went for it, but as we had the rights to all colour corrected and retouched photos we were able to make up albums for our parents and a couple of relatives who asked for specific pictures were able to get cheaper prints than the archive grade ones we got. There wasn't a massive difference in price to go disk only, but most photographers we checked out offered a disk/online gallery option.

However, there is no comparison between the album we received from the photographer and the ones we made up online, the colour, cover and quality of the print job from the photographer is far superior and well worth having. After the day is over, all you'll really hold onto are photos and a DVD if you're getting one, so I wouldn't skimp TOO much. We also found a few photographers were open to having the disk only option for now, and then doing up an album when funds became available, so you could spread the cost. Might be worth considering.
