Christmas on TV3

Just checked out the TV listings last night - and couldn't believe the amount of repeats on TV3 and films that they are showing twice and 1 film is even shown three times over just one week!

Ok, i know it's a "classic" but they're showing it's A Wonderful Life twice in the afternoon on Sunday and Christmas Eve. And then RTE1 pop along and show the exact film on Monday in the afternoon as well.

And TV3 have a film 'Wonder Woman' showing three times in a week, Evan almighty showing twice, National Lampoon xmas 2 twice, Mr Troop Mom twice, Another Cinderella Story twice amongst others.

Programmes include Top TV Moments of 2010 twice, Strictly Come Dancing 2011 Xmas Special twice, Dublin airport xmas special twice (not to mention about 4 screenings of it on 3e), Unnatural History series being shown for the 3rd time in under 5 months, The Childline Concert showing 3 times in the afternoons in 1 week.

Even though they are the 2nd most watched channel in ireland today - it seems that the choices they have given their audience over the christmas period is just embarrassing.

I understand every channel shows repeats every Christmas, but I've never seen them show the same film three times in one week.

That's very lazy scheduling. No wonder people turn to boxsets over Christmas.

Don't forget the soaps. Wall to wall misery on Christmas day (especially Eastenders). Soaps should be banned on Christmas day.

But in reality they aren't the 2nd most watched channel, the only big shows they have is Emmerdale and Coronation Street.... all made by ITV/UTV.

If UTV was stuck on 103 on sky/upc i'm pretty sure TV3 would be the least watched station in Ireland, their programming is pretty pathetic. I know they are restricted by funding but Christ they can afford to make Talifornia, Celebrity Salon, Expose.... etc. Who exactly are their target audience with their homegrown content? As a young male the only program I might watch in the Champions League ... and that's like watching lego running around a green background.

Two good examples of the amount of times they're going to show the same programme over and over again:

I don't think its fair to treat TV3 and 3e as the same channel. The way you were talking in the OP, it came across that all the repeats were on TV3. :o

That is like a spoof schedule.

"So we need another 10 hours of programming over Christmas week. Should we buy the rights to some decent movies, or a classic TV series maybe?"

"Nah, stick on more repeats of Unsung Heroes or any old crap we have lying around in the archives. And stick on Ireland's Top 10 TV moments of 2010 a few more times, that must be considered a classic by now. "

Ah c'mon now lads. Things are a bit tight in TV3 this Christmas with the sudden lose of their cash cow earlier this month.

Have some sympathy for them. :pac:

Ah no, I dont think they were getting any money out of it... After all, they used to say "We are taking a break from TV3 programming for the evening" before it aired.... lol :D

My original post just contains TV3 showings. Even from the images attached above - you can see TV3 show the same documentary showed 4 times on the same channel, with three of them showing at pretty good times as well.

In an age of dvr's, tv3.ie and 3player where people can catch up with shows they've missed, I feel there is no need for such repeats in a schedule only days after it's shown.

TV3 seem to have got their calender in a mess this bank holiday weekend.

2 Christmas films on - Fred Claus on Sunday evening, and Snow Wonder on Monday morning. Coupled with a Christmas special of Bondi Rescue and a New Years Eve special of Wild At Heart as well.

I'm surprised Martin King's Christmas Helpers wasn't wheeled out again.

Surely they can't be that stuck for films to show?
