I got a similar price increase but I was told at time of deal. What make/model you buying?

€400 seems like a pretty small increase, unless it's a sub 100g vehicle.

OP - you should have been told there was probably going to be a price increase when you ordered the vehicle. Unfortunately, because it's a government increase there is very little the dealer can do about it. There is no price protection on new cars in Ireland, especially when it's down to a government increase.

I'm sure the deal was subject to vrt changes. Unless they specifically agreed to soak up any vrt changes, then I figure they are within their rights. Everyone knew this was coming so if it wasn't mentioned while making the deal, its poor form.

It just goes to show you get better value buying second hand . Why buy a new Lada when for the same money you can have a merc or bmw. Stop paying the government money you do not need too ie vrt.

    Great advice there.
Stop working too so they don't tax your wages.

If no one buys new cars there will be no second hand cars for you to buy.... If no one pays VRT the government will tax you somewhere else... No matter what you are paying tax on everything... There is 2 things you have to do is breath and pay tax.

ah but you can stop breathing if you wish...

i'am getting a dacia duster , the possible VRT increase wasn't mentioned , even though i should have thought to ask my self as i knew there was an increase coming , but i did't think it would affect me since i ordered it before the budget .

Have owned 2 new cars in my time and don't regret either. Now driving an older car though to keep the costs down (700 tax aside!!) but am looking forward to when I can order new again.

    New Leon, Octavia or 3-series..mmm...

Buy a new car for 20k buy a second hand car for 10k spend the other 10k on fuel & tax which should keep it going for a good while. considering pre 08 2 liter plus cars will be dumped in the new year because of the high road tax their will be some good buys.

Got a phonecall after budget from the dealer saying VRT increase would be €480.

By my calculations the increase in VRT ( 2% ) should be in the region of €340.

Dealer was unable to explain the difference and said Renault were charging him and he has to charge me.

After several phone calls he agreed to email Renault to get official response - no word from him since.

No sign of my new Duster either.........

    Duster Signature 4 x 2. CO2 130g.

    Booked with deposit at €17000.

    OMSP circa €18000.

VRT rate increased from 16% to 18% in the budget.

    €18000 x 2 % = €360.

Assumption on OMSP which may not be as high.

Its the wrong calculation, I'll give you correct one tomorrow morning.

Do you have actual pre budget retail price of duster?

    Pre-budget I booked the car at €16990.
    Metallic Paint +€500
    Delivery +€600

Not sure how revenue calculate the OMSP after this.

Not sure how revenue calculate the OMSP after this.

    €16,990 as the retails gives:

    VRT @ 16% = €2,447
    Price ex. VRT = €14,543
    VAT = €2,720
Price Ex. VAT Ex. VRT = €11,824

    New VRT @ 18% = €2814
    Estimated new price = €17,357

    Price increase €367

That's presuming a 10% discount off the Retail price to get the OMSP. If you take an 8% discount to get to OMSP, then it works out at a €313 increase.

VRT increase on metallic @ €500 should only be €11, so it looks like you are being over charged a bit.

Its like countdown :) I would do this slightly different.

    Retail = €16,990

Calculate the car price pre tax = 100%-18%*.92 (OMSP) = 83.44%

Divide pre tax price €14,802 (16,990 - old 16% VRT rate of €2,501 ) by 83.44% and multiply by 100 to get new price = €17,365.

Price increase of €375. Delivery should remain 600 and metallic would go €17 so you should only really pay €392 more. Anything else is a scam or price increase.

Now, I'm slightly worried that you are coming up with different figures to me. It's close, but really should be the same.

I've a spreadsheet set up from 08 so just stick in the numbers and emissions and the sheet does the rest. Using figures from a manufacturer that I have the full dealer price list for, my current figures were coming back bang on for VAT & VRT.

When Dacia release their January pricelist we'll see who is right :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 GranGruba

Ok - so dealer contacted me yesterday and said new price is €17410 - an increase of €420 due to VRT.

I forgot to mention I ordered Touring Pack on this as well which costs an extra €750 plus the 5 year unlimited mileage warranty at €549 - maybe these push up the VRT more?

Also, he said they were getting a batch in this week but mine would not be available until 1st or 2nd week of March.
