Perfect thanks. I'm waiting on figures on a pure bred heifer. I could do with a bit of an improvement on what she currently has

Any major surprises/shocks for anybody? Grand sire of my aubrac bull is +234 euro for maternal, looks like I'll be bulling aubrac heifers this spring.

The Weanling Index is completely gone now!
All the suckler farmers in the country will be glad to hear that. What are they thinking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,316 ✭✭✭tanko

Beef/terminal figures for OZS are well down. Not surprised tho, couldnt see where they were getting the previous figures from. He still has good docility and milk figures and his calving difficulty is down too.

Figures for HCA are well up, im glad to see that. He's a good bull for heifers/ second calvers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,552 ✭✭✭pakalasa

AHZ is very easy calving too. No calving figures for the other new Lim bulls in NCBC yet though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,650 ✭✭✭Munster Magic

Thanks for that, not what I was hoping for though:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,274 ✭✭✭Bodacious

OZS went down in calving difficulty ( thank god) from 7.84% in August to 6.5%in December @ 97% reliability

Gestation is still there. You have to go into Maternal Graphics and then click on Gestation. It opens then in a new window with the values. At least there is a window for the values. they normally take a few days before they appear with new proofs.

Just looking at Angus bulls ,all the good bulls have bad figures and the bad bulls figures are better eg.NKN has brutal numbers and he the most sought after bull in years and the likes of SYT and MPD topping the list..........have they been telling us to us the wrong bulls all along or are these ratings getting more respect than they deserve...........I'm going to be paying more attention to linear type from now on at least the shape and size of the bull won't change

It could be because angus bulls are used on heifers for easy calving. So if you have a (huge) amount of heifers with calving difficulties that bull's figures are going to be skewed. Maternal traits like calving ease are getting more weight than they used to. Just my 2 cents.

Is there anywhere that all the stats can be translated into english? Like wtf does this € Contribution Daughters 0.5*(PTA*EW) mean?

You'd want a degree in abbreviations and statistics to figure out this sh1t. Or am I the only thick one here, anybody else getting lost?

Even the linear type figures for bulls have changed, eg the muscle figure for OZS has gone from 126 in august to 114 in december and his skeletal figure has gone from 117 to 111. These figures have a reliability of around 50% which means that they aren't worth the paper they're written on.

I have a pedigree heifer that is 3 generations AI breeding. All 3 bulls have reliability over 90% and the great granddam is a full sister to a well known bull in irish AI. Yet the figures for this heifer are only down around 30% to 40% reliability.
So at 40% reliable, is that 60% unreliable? And apart from the heavily used AI bulls, how useful are these figures.

I dont seem to be able to find any 5 star bulls now with this new system. Its one of my tasks to use a certain percentage of 5 star bull for the BTAP scheme but this is proving near impossible

anywhere we can see a list of all bulls in their breed groups easier to compare

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 451 ✭✭mikeoh

I wonder how do the ratings hold up to UK breedplan eg. TFX in top 1% terminal in UK but way down the list here...(he was 5* under old system) .......are there any other UK bulls in Irish Ai just to compare

TVR or EFZ. I've a Pedigree heifer that's calved a month and I would like to keep the easy calving side of things in the breeding.

I used both Pak but id be wary of TVR calving ... be next feb/march before I cab be of any use to you though

I also liked and tried that GWO fine looking bull

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,083 ✭✭✭bogman_bass

aye. TVR isnt the one to use for easy calving

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,552 ✭✭✭pakalasa

New figures are up now. Jazus, TVR is 13.6% for calving.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭Mac Taylor

Pak, Have a PB Bull calf off him - Second calver. She had a Dancer bull calf last year. No issue with Dancer but TVR was some pull. I am not surprised. Smashing calf off him though, even better than Dancer.

Nice one. I've used EFZ on 6 cows for next year and his CD figure has dropped to 6.10%. Going the right way.:D

I've two due to GWO next month and his CD figure has dropped as well but BZB is going up fairly quickly and I have one due in three weeks that is a bit to fat already. He was 3.50% in April 2012 and is 7.50% now.

My vet told me last month that the biggest increase he saw in caesarean sections was with Parthenaise bulls the last few years.
