Myself and my girlfriend are looking into building a log house. We've settled on the exact design and house (costing 112k for the shell of the house). Does anyone know or have any experience in regard to the extra costs in terms of doing the interior, plumbing, electrics, foundations, etc...

    Thanks

Interesting - Can you get insurance on a log cabin over here?

Personally I would be inclined to consider a standard form of construction clad with half logs if you're considering this from a purely aesthetic perspective.

With regard to foundations, this of course depends on soil bearing capacity and your structural Engineer will no doubt advise you in this regard.

Dont know if this is any help to u but myself and my partner was also looking at log cabins and as far as i remember u have to get the foundation sorted before they start the cabin, they only come in and put up the cabin itself so u r talking about getting the plumbing and electric sorted yourself while the build is going on so there will be no drilling into the wooden floors and walls and as for the interior... it will be beautiful log cabin nothing needs doing, its also needs 3 coats of exterior varnish/sealing and some places we were pricing were throwing this in for free so ask them all these question, they should know, hope this helps and best of luck on this project there are beautiful and hopefully one day i will have mine :)

Just to be aware that generally speaking log cabins aren't looked upon favourabily by planning authorities unless in a wooded area. Also there's the matter of the building regs to comply with .
