We have a 2006 passat that we are getting rid of due to continuous problems. We will have about 8-9k to spend and as our family is growing we are going to buy a 7 seater.
Looking for advice/suggestions on what to buy.
We have ruled out the smaller people carriers- Opel & corolla verso as family members have them and don't rate them as 7 seaters.
We want to be able to use the 7 seats if need be and ideally we would like to get a 2006 model +

    Any suggestions/ help/advise please

Have a look at the mitsubishi grandis and the Seat Alhambra.

    2008 Renault Grand Scenic,
    1.6 Petrol,
    50,000 miles,
    NCT until July 2014,
    €9,000

    2007 Volkswagen Touran,
    1.6 Petrol,
    70,000 miles,
NCT not specified in the advert. I'd insist on having it done if I were buying,
    €10,000

    2007 Opel Zafira,
    1.6 Petrol,
    80,000 miles,
    NCT until February 2015,
    €7950

    Citroen C4 Grand Picasso,
    2.0 Petrol,
    45,000 miles,
    NCT not specified,
    €10,000

This car is a UK import so I'd make sure there is a comprehensive service history to back up the mileage.

We have a Grand Espace for the last few years and it's been very reliable, very comfortable and spacious. I can sit in the third row no problem and still fit bags in the boot, get anywhere between 30-40mpg too

There is no such thing as a "nice" Rodius.

    This too shall pass.

Have to agree - in our house it's called the Hideous. Pity because the mechanical could be decent enough.

Zafira. Handy, comfortable, reliable. It's a 5+2 seats and it works for us with 4 kids.

Would recommend the Alhambra having had 2 with no problems.

I find the Rodius comfortable and have driven it to Alicante and back several times ( sometimes through uk) plus a few trips to London. Also use it as a hackney, customers like it .Plenty of power on the Spanish hills. Would prefer if it was lighter on diesel but getting the same mpg as my daughter's Renault Scenic Automatic 1.6 petrol. A good workhorse, plenty of prettier vehicles out there if looks mean more reliability.

If this is in good nick and you can stomach the tax:

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Volvo/XC90/2.4-Dies/29813459009141550/advert?channel=CARS

Seems pricey for a 2003, but if that mileage is genuine and it's in good nick you might get years out of it, despite the inconvenience of impending annual NCTs.

I know a large family with one, and they seem to have decent bootspace to go with the 7 seats. Slow enough though and a little thirsty (think small family petrol consumption in terms of mpg).

I know what I'd prefer, but then I have major grá for Volvos and an intense dislike of van-ish 7 seaters
