Gas Hob Jets

I bought a cheap gas hob a year ago and my dad fitted it. I've always noticed that the jets are really wonky on it, like the flame can be far too big and yellow and they burn the bottom of the pots.

A friend told me that I probably have a hob that's for mains gas and not bottle gas and I need some new jets.

Does anyone know anything about this or where to get them?

You need a LPG conversion kit and you also need a Registered Gas Installer to fit it. Your present hob is producing vast amounts of Carbon Monoxide, enough to find your Father up on a Manslaughter charge.

My hob came with two sets - the mains gass was in by default. Check the manual and any spare bits from the kitchen if you kept them... You just might have them already.

If you are still using it get a carbon monoxide alarm and stick it up - it should warn you of a dangerous build up of fumes which are so deadly as you won't smell anything just go unconscious from them. Deaths occur every year from carbon monoxide poisoning. But I'd advise you to get rid of the cooker if you can't get it serviced by a competent gas fitter. Don't take chances with your life.

Jaysus... That's a bit scary! I've been using that hob since July 2011, cooking everyday.

would you believe we just bought a carbon monoxide alarm 2 days ago but it's not up yet.

We do go through a lot of cylinders too so the gas is burning off too fast clearly. Il get that sorted pronto!

Cooked last night with carbon monoxide alarm beside the cooker and it didn't go off. Very confused. Tried ringing a few gas men but didn't get through. Will try again today.

My god you are dicing with death there. Don't use the hob and get an registered gas installer out to have a look at it,

It is normal for hobs to be supplied with two set of jet, if you don't have them simply contact the supplier where you bought the hob from and they'll be able to supply you with a correct set of jets. They will also be able to advised on replacing them.

I wouldn't put this job on the long finger.

They will or should advise to contact an RGI, it is illegal to do otherwise.
