where to buy Triax TR212S Saorview box?

    Hi,

Does anyone know where I might be able to buy the Saorview approved Triax TR212S? I can't find it anywhere. I've been told that the only difference between the 212 & the 212S is the Firmware and that it can be easily updated, but I'm just wary of buying an unapproved box.

    Thanks in advance,
    Junipers

Thanks for your reply & link. Unfortunately that's the older unapproved model.

I've found out since that the approved TR212S will probably be in the shops in January.

It's just an ordinary box with dual tuners, it's not a real PVR so not worth it, bit of a Kludge. It's only approved as an ordinary box, not a PVR. There might be a real PVR by January.

OP wasn't asking about Saorview PVR. The Saorview PVR will be retailing at well over 200 bucks so will folks pay that for a PVR for a handful of channels? Time will tell. It's fairly tight these days and money doesn't grow on trees etc etc etc

The consistant use of the word Kludge in posts is not overly helpful. The TR212S does not claim to be a Saorview PVR. It is a the first Saorview approved dual tuner box. If someone wants to spend around 80 bucks on the TR212S vs 200+ bucks on the Saorview PVR, whenever it arrives, that's up to themselves based on their needs and budget.

Sure in an ideal world we all would have a Freesat PVR and a Saorview PVR, even better if it was all in the one box but that's not the way the way the world works.

The firmware is the only difference between the TR212 and TR212S. The TR212S should be on sale in the new year.

I was just suggesting if not buying a PVR, other Saorview boxes are far better value. I wasn't making any assumptions but explaining. Not everyone that asks for something understands the alternatives, also I write for the benefit of all the 100s of other people that may read the thread.

Also Triax are only rebadging a lesser Chinese maker anyway. The Vestel HW & SW is developed in USA & UK.

Or is your attack on my post because you think I might lose you a sale? I sell nothing. I give consumer advice based on expertise in using, customising, deploying and even design of electronic, mobile, computer and AV gear. The Tech websites I run have no advertising either to maintain the editorial impartiality.

The Triax TR212 is not Saorview approved despite claims made to the contrary on various retailers websites.

The Triax TR212S is Saorview approved and is not available until the new year.

    Already discussed here.

I'm not getting into a nit picking row. It's the same hardware on both models. A firmware update for the 212 will turn it into 212S that's what I meant, just to be clear. I have updated my earlier post also to correct the 'S' issue.

Can we have that in writing from Triax?

I'm not nit picking with you Dave.

If they are the same hardware and software on both models I am struggling to see why Triax felt that they had to distinguish between the models with an additional S (and indeed Saorview themselves on their website listing approved models). I have not seen the new model, so I for one don't know if there any differences or similarities. Is this an assurance that you have received ?

As a retailer I assume you know your oranges from your apples. I do wonder why people are detailing them as Saorview approved if they are not available until the new year. From what I can see it is only the Triax212 (without the S) that is available to buy right now.

You can understand punters, like the OP, when it comes to Triax. We already have had the unfortunate Triax 537 being sold in stores with approved logos when they were not approved.

Yes a lot of unapproved equipment has been sold in shops with 'saorview approved' advertising around it , it's been very confusing from the start, and still is for a lot of people.

Can't agree there Watty. The Triax has two tuners, a major advantage over other Saorview boxes, for a small premium of €10 or €20.

It can't do anything reliable with them. It's a "fudged" product.
