Shelton Benjamin has asked for and received his release from Ring of Honor. According to reports, this is so that he could negotiate and potentially leave for WWE. For now, Benjamin may continue to appear for the promotion, but he is working on a per appearance deal.

Benjamin has been rumored to be returning to WWE ever since reports surfaced that the promotion was looking to bring back mid-card talent to solidify the current roster.

Kofi Kingston will have some competition for the #1 bland midcarder who can run up ladders spot then so.

Thats good for ROH. He was never a good fit in ROH and always seemed to suck the life out of the building. The occasional good match (usually against much better opponents) but for the money he was likely on, didnt add nearly enough.

He had the rep for being too good for ROH/a WWE guy in a very, very tight knit all in together locker room apparently. Keep from himself separated and had heat for never really advertising the fact he was in ROH either it was on Twitter or doing podcasts. He doesn't seem properly fresh at all as a returning talent. Christian when he comes back will be fresher in my eyes.

I think Tyson Kidd is similar in style to Shelton.

Tyson can properly wrestle and has a FAR better grasp of psychology IMO.

Let's have Kofi Kingston hold the Intercontinental title until then as well and put over Christian.

Yeah, but he never had a fake momma on tv, dyed his hair so he looked like a negative or had quality tv matches with the Undertaker.

Edit:When I think of it he had good matches with so many legends of WWE. Bring him back quick. Maybe he din't have 'it' but he has more of it than many - if that makes sense.

They should have Shelton return at a Money in the Bank and then release him then next day. As he used to nothing of any consequence the other 364 days in the WWE calender.

Yeah I prefer Kidd to Benjamin but I was just thinking one night how they should push Kidd and I remembered the push they started to give Benjamin with big matches against HHH and all.
Think it might just be moves like balancing on and jumping from the top rope that reminds me of him.

Shelton does nothing for me. I think you have to have a personality to suceed in WWE. Its something he could have worked on while he was on the indies too, but didn't. Would rather Tyson Kidd or Bourne (when back) got his push.

Split from the no chat news thread.

I've never been a fan of this guy's personality/promos and what I've seen of him in ROH is not an improvement. Why would WWE push him beyond the midcard? He must've been earning about half a million by the time he was leaving WWE, and is only getting older. As others noted, Tyson Kidd (amongst others) can do whatever he could do at a fraction of the price.

And yes, Grandma Benjamin was amazing, and I'd hire Shelton back if she was part of the deal :D

For some reason I recall it being 800k (which is quite impressive esp. as a mid carder) but I could be wrong.

Apart from his match with hbk, can anyone actually remember any good Benjamin matches? And who really had matches with Michaels?

Benjamin is still working for NJPW and is number 1 contender for Tanaka's title, so maybe his requested release from ROH is because he wants to stay in Japan for a while.

Benjamin and Haas would be an awesome addition to the TNA tag division.
