    Sorry to hear that.

Where abouts was it stolen from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,352 ✭✭✭Mar4ix

where abouts its gone from ? what city, area ?

very uncommon car tbh, as those passats cost nothing these days, and to steal that, need equipment more than car worth, it is not just hotwire. ... maybe towed away ?

Hope insurance company will cover costs.

I'm also really surprised they stole such a old car that sorry to say is worth next to nothing. Only thing I can think of its gona be used in a crime very soon

I thought thieves targeting powerful cars for crime, that banger more likely went for parts, me thinks.

Your sister should check locally for anyone that might be in the scrap recycling business. There's people travelling around who will strip a car to sell on as scrap.

As above, check to see is there any chance it was towed. Reported to gardai?

Your most likely right but if I wanted a car to do a job and I didn't want a load of fuss from Garda because I'd stollen a expensive car I may steel a older car. If I was a gard and someone told me their 98 passat was stollen I don't think I'd be using the whole Garda resources to try foil the crime.

But saying that your explanation or it was taken by joyriders is probably closer to the truth

Was it stolen with keys, or without?
With keys - doable, but don't think someone went through the hassle of nicking 98 regd passat for joyriding...
Everything is possible these days. Hope you find it, or at least get cash from Insurance quickly.

Doesn't matter what it was worth financially. The point is that it was her car and nobody likes anything stolen from them. I only sold a 98 diesel Passat (my most favorite car out of all the wagons i've owned to date which includes much newer wagons) in July and now i'm driving a 99 bag of crap van around due to financial reasons to get me from A to B. I'd be fu**ed without it though. I honestly hope she gets it back. Will keep my eyes peeled in Limerick. Hope she gets it back soon

I have a diesel one of these, it may not be worth much but its my car. I'd hate anyone to steal it!

Will keep a lookout in my area, i going between Athlone and Portarlington today.

    Happy days!

On a side note: I really hate it when people automatically assume that an older car is "just an old banger"...

    Took keys from the house.

Gaurds said they parked it & left keys in the ignition,
They said then then robbed another car.
That's all the info I got.

Anyway my sister is glad to have it back.

People really make it too easy for the scum.

By not wanting to risk their safety by making it hard for these scumbags?

Also where did the OP say they made it easy for them? For all you know the keys were well hidden and we're only given up at theat of harm.

Ive started leaving my keys at the end of the stairs, in plain site. If someone breaks in looking for car keys, they will have no reason to go upstairs.

They can deal with my Rottweiler.

I am sure insurance companies take a dim view of the practice of leaving keys where criminals can take them easily.

I would have thought leaving they keys in my house was safe?

I couldn't give a rats arse what insurance companies think !
Nor do I give a **** what you think , dick head!

Somebody entered her house , took her keys at knife point , then stole her car !
And you imply that it's her fault !

So hide the keys and make them come looking for them? Or all get a beast of a rottweiler? If the keys are in your house they should be considered safe
