New email settings for Smart Phones

Did anyone get the email regarding the new "easier" set up for student mail on smart phones?

Anyone know why it needs to be a device administrator and why it now needs control of:
    Erase all data,
    Set password rules,
    Monitor screen unlock attempts,
    Lock the screen,
    Set lock-screen password expiration,
    Set storage encryption,
    Disable cameras,
    Set SD card encryption,
    Password recovery,
    Disable POP and IMAP emails,
    Disable SD card,
    Disable Wi-Fi,
    Disable SMS/MMS Messaging,
    Disable Internet,
    Disable Internet sharing,
    Disable Desktop sync,
    Disable IrDA.

Seems like excessive control does it not?

They might not have set permissions correctly on the app yet.

Although I just read the email and it doesn't sound like you're setting any extra permissions, merely changing the settings?

When you go through it it requests you make it an admin for the phone and throws all those permissions up.
