Reducing working hours and Disability?

    Hi all,

I am a single parent of an almost 10 year old child. I work full time and am in a permanent job. Throughout the year I was off work sick, quite a lot. I received illness benefit for about 6 weeks.

I get 5 paid sick days a year which I used and anything after that was unpaid.
I was just diagnosed with MS.

I'm not too sure how this will affect my working life. I am struggling a bit to juggle everything and work have offered me the option of reducing my hours.

However, I'm not sure how this would work for me. I get minimum FIS payment at the moment as I am just under the FIS limit.

I really want to get a better balance because I spend my evenings and weekend totally wrecked and I am using my holidays for appointments and sick days.

I find the information about disability very vague in terms of work. I can see that I can work and claim a disability allowance but that the work has to be "rehabilitative". What does that constitute?
I also see there is a new benefit for working with a disability but it's only after someone has been on illness benefit for 6 months.

What help is there for someone who finds they need to reduce their working hours after becoming "disabled"? I can see loads of info about getting back to work, but not about staying in work?

I'm not really looking to do anything right now but I'd like to suss out my options to take some of the pressure off knowing that it's do-able if it comes down to it.
