free editing programme

    i have picasa 3 and gimp 2, but not sure if they have the function i'm looking for. I have a photo thats in colour, but i want to turn most of it black and white and keep multiple colour spots in the pic (its a pic of my daughter looking a lots of xmas baubles, i want to keep the colour in the baubles and make the rest of the pic B&W) picasa has a focal B&W option but it only allows you to chose one focal point... is there something in these programmes thats hidden to me? Can't really figure out gimp lol
