Hi guys, this has probably been asked a thousand times before but I can't find the answer.
Does anyone know why the water would go from luke warm to boiling hot then back to luke warm for the duration of the shower? When I have the power set at the middle setting the water is only luke warm so I turn it up to the top power setting which then causes the water to go boiling hot and luke warm. I thought it might have been limescale in the shower head so I changed it to a new one when cleaning it didn't work.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Try removing the shower head and let the water run for a bit, lots of limescale might run out.

With my shower the lime had got way too much, because I didn't de-scale the shower head enough.

The lime had damaged/killed the thermostat inside the shower unit.

I think it was about €80- to get a new one put in.

I now clean the shower head weekly with a limescale remover called Oust, its about €1.80 in Tesco for three sachets.

My Triton T90i lasted ten years (with one thermostat replacement) in a really high lime area before I had to get a new shower. I then bought a new shower unit from a plumbers suppliers and paid to get it installed.

    :)

Just make sure all settings are turned to cold when running the shower hose with the head removed.

You should see lumps of lime scale coming out.

    Thanks for this advise guys.

I tried cleaning it this evening but found that the lumps of scale didn't just fall out!

Firstly I took off the shower head and ran the shower at its coldest setting, some pieces came out but not a lot. I left the shower running for a good 5 minutes and no more came out. I refitted the shower head and tried it hot again but the results were the same. I again removed the head and ran it cold and found more bits of scale coming out. I must have repeated these steps about 50 times over an hour and a half just to get the shower to some bearable temperature.

    1. As it got better after all that effort I'm guessing that if I keep repeating the above steps it will get back to normal?

    2. After all that, I took a shower only to find that the water still comes out the head after I have switched it off. I'm guessing that some scale has lodged in a valve somewhere. Am I right ? And if so if I keep trying to clean out the scale will I dislodge this piece from the valve?

The shower is a T90XR and not a T90si as previously said.

    Thanks for the help.

usually caused by poor flow so shower overheats then cuts off heating until it cools /heats /overheats/etc

remove hose /head and run shower to make sure they are not the cause of flow problems

do following if your happy messing around with electrics and water
isolate power, turn off water supply ,
take off cover , twist off filter housing (look at manual),
clean and carefully re seal filter
