    I wouldn't be paying more than 4k. It's a 7 year old car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,000 ✭✭✭mitosis

In a fortnight it'll be 7 years old. And it'll still be a 1.6 Focus. I wouldn't personally pay €4k cash for it.

I dont think they will go that low...2k off asking price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭looters

    anyone else?

Good looking car and it has done regular mileage. I don't think you'd be too successful with an offer of 2k less than the asking price as others have suggested :D

I would aim for 5000 cash, final offer. An independent second hand car dealer would bite your hand off at that, but wouldn't at 4500 for example...

    3500...

What kind of profit margins do you think dealers make??

It's not like it will magically drop in price on the 1st Jan. In fact, there are usually more active buyers in January than December, so the dealer has a better chance of selling then than now.

What do you think this one is worth?

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Ford/Focus/1.6-STEE/6913367455867950/advert?channel=CARS

Also can anyone explain the difference between this one, the ford focus steel the first one which was an NT Ghia

Offer €6k. Note the salesman's facial expression.

That last one is the older model, Steel has extra's thrown in on top of base model, Ghia is top spec.

Any car people tell me what the steel one is worth?

Confusing because I cant find any reference to this steel model on www.parkers.co.uk

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 385 ✭✭Lawless2k12

http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4182785 Offer NOTHING! cash. Not even a ghia... my bad folks

http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4302254 Offer €3000 for the craic. Seems like a nice car and alright price.

http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4212722 High mileage but they can take it. Would offer €3000 as well. Slight couple of extras than option 2 above but nearly twice the miles... doesn't make a huge difference to these machines though...

Don't know what your feelings towards donedeal are, or if you're interested in a bit of driving, but here's a few others to look at. Didn't look at every little detail, more glanced over really, but they are all Ford Focus Ghia. 1 is from dealership, and I think the other 2 are private...

EDIT: Would favour the first car as it is from dealer but it is a bit pricier and doesn't mean better quality. Worth having a look at them all though regardless of dealership or private sale.

Because the "steel" model was the Irish market to clear out the last stock of the old model. Parker's is a UK site.

Had a focus steel a while back, don't remember it being very different to the base model other than alloys and I think better radio (might have been a 6-cd unit, not sure).

BTW, saloons are usually a good bit cheaper than the hatchbacks. You should be able to get good value if you shop around.

http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4315759 Put this in because it's sexy :D
http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4313426 Confusing advert but nice cars. Shame about the lack of details... Slightly edgy tbh

http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4150964 Another Ghia. Not too shabby at all

Just a few extra cars to have a gawk at. Might not float your boat but worth having a look at them anyway...

Doesn't look like a Ghia, more like base spec.

Black door handles, no A/C, no MFSW...

What do you think this focus steel is worth...would an offer of 3.5 be stupid?

Want to stick to dealers, no private sales.

I reckon that car is worth €3300-3500. We sold an 04 base model with higher mileage for €2750 a few weeks back. However if I were you I'd try to buy a new model if possible.

Cant really hold out and not too pushed about things like door handles really.

What do you think of the millage?, a bit high?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

The mileage is on the lower side of average IMO.

You dealers really advertise cars like this as 4900 when its only worth 3500...never know that.

Thats a massive 42 percent extra on the real value.

Not sure where you got the €4900 from. The black 05 Focus Steel you linked to is asking €3950 and George thinks it's worth around €3300-€3500. Thats a drop of €450-€650.

Yeah, got mixed up...was looking at a few on the net.

Suppose that kind of increase makes sense. Just seems some dealers really take the piss.

Dealers will always add a bit of fat to the asking price of a car as it allows them room for negotiation while still achieving close to the price they want for the car. Buyers always expect to pay less than the asking price too so it works out that the actual selling price is somewhere inbetween.

Do you have any idea what a can of Coke costs your local corner shop, and what they sell it to you for?

You think motor dealers take the piss?

Yeah but the difference is I know how much a can of coke is in every store.

Point I was making is that some dealers really take the piss. Try to catch out people.
