Air escaping from brake pedal

    Hi All,

I have a 10 Skoda Octavia 1.6 tdi. Recently I noticed when I depress the brake pedal before coming to a stop it sounds like there is some air escaping from the pedal. The brake pads were replaced about 45,000 km ago and the brake itself is working fine.

When I turn off the car the brake pedal goes hard which is normal.

    Any ideas?

I'd highly recommend a visit to the dealer. Rather be safe than sorry when it comes to brakes. If it is a 10 car, presume it still has some warranty...

Unfortunately it only had a 2 yr warranty. Yes, I will visit a dealer ASAP. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas?

You may need your fluid replaced

    a servo problem maybe?

It may also be perfectly normal - the servo will make this noise as it vents, but do get it checked out just in case.

It's definitely a new sound. I was doing some research and other avenues seem to be a leaking servo (as Corktina said) or main cylinder. I will report back accordingly.

    Any other ideas appreciated.

I'd get it looked at pretty snappy. I had the same problem a couple of years ago. My 2cents worth would be you have a leak in a brake fluid hose.

Any change in brake pedal feel, OP? Is the pedal more spongy (or harder) than usual?

It is a tiny bit softer, but nothing major. Maybe you can depress it a 1/4 of an inch more. Then it goes hard when engine is turned off.
