Book Allowance Overpayment?

    Hey guys,

I attended Ucc earlier this year and was on the BTEA. I got the 300e cost of education money. Now unfortunatly I was hospitalised for near five weeks and had to withdraw on medical grounds.

Went down to the S.W office the other day and they want to call the 300 an overpayment and want me pay it back. I explained i had already bought books and its not like I wanted to leave college. Is this right? If i have to pay it back because i didnt finish the course surely I should be expected to pay back the BTEA money too?

Will I be able to get BTEA next year also? I hope to be able to return next year all going well.

    Keelan.

You normally won't get it again for the same level course, but I imagine if you have proof of your withdrawal on medical grounds, you might get it again on discretionary grounds. It really will depend on your case officer.

I'm afraid I think you will have to pay back the book grant, they have gotten quite strict on this.

Thanks for the reply. I find it mad about the book allowance. I assumed theyd just write that money off.
    Thanks again.
