Random question about oil heating system

I have a manual valve that closes off the water to the upstairs of the house. This is usually set like this as we don't use the upstairs for now.

I was wondering if, when you have the heating on, do you save any oil by not heating the upstairs rads, or would it not matter as the hot water would just circulate round them anyway when it was being heated by the boiler?

If you do turn off upstairs you will save on oil.

But there is a price to pay.
If upstair is colder than downstairs you will have quite a draught. So curtains to block off upstairs and downstairs if it is going to be long term.

Also if you have no heat going to rooms periodically the rooms will start to deteriorate slightly. You may start to see black spots on walls and ceilings. So maybe a couple of hours of heat a week.

You will save oil yes. But as jim said there are drawbacks too. Maybe leave upstairs on and fit thermostatic valves on the rads and set them low so the room will heat slightly
