    Hey lads,

I'm looking at upgrading my turbo,I'm thinking about getting one with a power meter on it,I don't want it to play games on just for power, has anyone got one they can recommend ?

    Cheers zip,

    kurt kinetic,

cycleops have a couple but they are around 1000euro and you might as well just get a separate power meter at that price. everything else has less accurate readings and low max power reading limit

or if you want to push out the boat for the best Power based "turbo" available, there's the Wattbike

    Cheers for reply,

I was looking at the tacx i-vortex T2160,would this on be any use ? I don't think the hub power meter will work on the turbo, the crank srm is big money and most of my training is on the turbo for now,I know you don't need it but the idea of knowing what your power is would be a help I'm sure,

    Cheers zip,

I used a wattbike on Friday for the first time, there a savage bit of kit with a lot of info but just to big of money for this year,I could not see any 2nd hand watt bikes for sale at right prices,it was the watt bike that gave me the idea of knowing my power output for training,

    Cheers zip,

    Lemond Revolution, Love it.......
You are using your bike, your set up. Same position as how you ride in the real world. And no tyre slip/wear.
+-2% accuracy differences, Same as most other Pms

2nd hand pm, does not really matter then what sort of turbo you go for. Most of them are inaccurate any way if you are looking for something accurate.

I was looking that one up today on the net also,do the make a lot of noise ? I need to use it in the house some of the time, Can you link it to the Garmin 500/800 ? Where did you get your one ? What did it cost with the power meter ?

    Cheers zip,

Will a hub pm work with a turbo ?

You could have a look at http://www.trainerroad.com
You can train with power on any turbo trainer and hardware will only cost about €60. I started using it 3 weeks ago, think it's brilliant.

I use a tacx i-flow, and IMHO the power readings are wildly out. i.e. 300w on the flat is significantly easier than 220w at 15%. Mind you, I've no great faith in the equivalent gradient readings either, and reckon a HRM would be a better tool to measure effort expended (as opposed to energy transferred into the cranks).

I would've thought that a hub based power meter would work with any turbo, but am open to correction.

Hi Zippe, they are quite noisy,I use mine in a Sufferlandrian suffer chamber (Shed).Wont link to a Garmin, but will to the powerpilot from lemond or a Laptop with A Ant+ usb.I also use trainerroad for Interval sessions on it and find it the biz

Couldn't find a single store online in Europe currently selling these (was looking for a price). You see links alright but they are all discontinued or out of stock
