Is there anyone on here that can help me with CS151. I'm completely lost and would apprieciate any help! I'm just looking to scrape a pass at the moment because I'm having alot of trouble understanding even the most basic concepts of the module. Even information on how hard it is marked, if there are attempt marks would be apprieciated! Thanks!

I'm doing this module too.. don't worry I think everyone is in the same boat. In all my years in college I have never experienced a module that was taught so badly; highly doubt the lecturer will be teaching it again next year. The only thing that helped was the tutorials. The best you can do at this stage is to write down the list of topics that he went through in the lectures(sets, functions, recursion etc) and study them all via the Hein or Rosen books. I would avoid his lecture notes as there are a number of mistakes and typos throughout. I assume the exam won't be marked too harshly anyway. There should be an allowance for attempt marks in the marking scheme as with most maths modules. There are even videos on youtube that go through the basic concepts if you feel that would help. Don't worry about it too much anyway!

Great to know I'm not the only one so! I'm having a lot of trouble trying to grasp even the most basic concepts though. I know the very basics of Truth Tables etc. and a bit of sets as these seem to come up every year. What other topics is everyone else focusing on?

I take it you didn't go to any lectures? :D You're gonna have to study pretty much everything as far as i can tell from exam papers but considering he is a new lecturer I'm not really sure whether he's going to stick to the previous exam format; I assume he is! Sets and functions are the 2 major topics so spend a good bit of time going over them, then you have truth tables, recursion, induction, Quine's method, Euclid's algorithm, Logs... etc .. they are all small topics! No point leaving out any as there will be bits of each topic spread throughout the paper, I assume!

I missed quite a few but I think even if I hadn't I'd still be this stuck because the lectures I did go to were awful! Can you link me some of the Youtube videos you mentioned? The textbook is confusing :S

I found this module difficult to grasp as well. I know the library has a couple of copies of the recommended text for the module. I borrowed one last week and it basically covers everything the lecturer mentioned except I find the book easier to learn from than the Moodle slides.
Ensure you go over these topics as he mentioned them in the last lecture:
    -Logic, proofs, advanced logic
    -Functions
    -Sets, bags, graphs etc
    -Induction
    -Iteration and recursion

Gave some 'constructive criticism' in the module feedback form as well :P

If it is the lecturer that I had in 2008 for CS151 believe me it will be happening again :)
