Can anyone help me, I have ordinary shares in 3 different uk companies all quite large and I receive dividend's every month or so from these shares the only thing is im not exactly sure what ordinary shares are or how much they are worth. I have not really dealt in shares before and i just taught that there was 1 type of share which the price increased or decreased depending on how well the company is doing...

Companies issue ordinary & preference shares. Google for details & differences. Dividend voucher will state which class of share you hold.

Ordinary shares are the type of shares that are traded on exchanges around the world.

To find the value of them lookup the company on yahoo finance.

Ok so say for example I have 87 ordinary shares with BG and the price is LSE1015.00p. Would i be correct in saying that i have 87 shares worth £1000 each?
