So, we have a range with a back boiler, but have never used it properly. I've lit the range today and its lovely and hot, but just wondering how I get it to heat the rads? Is there a switch I flick or something?

Thanks a mil, from the incredibly dumb homeowner!

If its solid fuel it will heat your water on gravity before switching on to heating the rads, but you may also need to turn on a switch that controls the pump via a pipe stat. If its oil you will need to raise the heating baffle plate.

yes we use oil always. pipe going into tank in hotpress is piping hot. how does system know which rads to heat?

So is the baffle plate up ?

Do you have a picture of your hotpress ?

You should have a pipe thermostat on the return pipe from the cylinder, that should be set to 55/60o, once your return reaches the set temperature it will automatically switch on the pump, but if you have not used this it maybe turned off somewhere, or the pump could be siezed.

Is there a cupboard next to the range???
If there is have a look in here for the pipe stat and pump.
There may also be a switch to switch on the pump located here.
