Depends. There's three sides to any story, yours, mine, and what actually happened. Can't say I've any love for repo men all the same and I did laugh at it.

i suppose it all depends if all avenues have been exhausted before the repo men come in.. I got a phone cal lfrom a debt collection agency a few weeks ago:eek: didnt know what they wanted, i owed 140 euro from 2009 to ucd vet college, tbh i wasnt getting reminders for this and if i had of gotten a bill, i normally would have paid it... seemed a bit excessive to get a debt collection agency to ring me... surely a call from ucd to ask me to pay would have worked out cheaper in the long run

Most companies sell on their bad debt for a value less than the value. Think its called factoring. Bad debt company then go after debt. That's prob what happened.

you borrow money, dont repay it back what do you expect to happen. Most banks I have dealt usually do their best if your meeting them at least half way

Dead right. Don't spend 80K on a tractor you can't afford, and then blame the big bad bank when they take it back (not sure what the "items" were in this case). From that article he sounds like a nutcase that's going to see jail.

you can object to them doing their job, but stripping them and putting them in with a boar, come on guys! the lads with white coats I think would be better qualified to call and see this guy.

I can't get the "squeel like a pig" scene from Deliverance outta my head:o

I was going to link to it but I wont, but I bet this is the music that was playing in their heads:D

Sympathy for banks in Ireland, the country is lost.

I never said I have sympathy for anybody, somehow I think what has happened the country will help us as a nation to find ourselves again.

anyway, can I have 100k so for a tractor, feck it - I will make one payment and then tell them to piss off and keep the tractor. All sounds great untill everyone starts doing it. **** im very cross when the guy that buys my old tractor wont pay me for it - THATS UNFAIR. How would you like if I bought 20 grands worth of animals off you and I decided - Fupp it, im not paying. If you buy a product, you pay for it.

When your put to the pin of your collar to make repayments and often wonder where the next few bob is going to come from to pay the next bill you might think otherwise. Maybe my moral conscience is OTT but that the way I like to conduct my business. I like to be paid whats due to me, and I like to pay was due by me

And remember when banks lend out money, it's other peoples savings they lend out.

Why can't you have 100k for a tractor, I don't see why not?

The banks got 10's of billions for sending the country down the swanny.

They're not paying for it, they've still got their pensions.

If that was what they actually did over the past 15 years we wouldn't be in this bother.

Bank gives out money to whoever will take it, They wrote out to, and rang up people to tell them they had been pre-aproved for loans.

They gave money to(took advantage of) people that obviously wouldnt be able to pay it back.

They lent money based on back of fag box projections and without stress testing.

They paid themselves (and are continuing to) perfomance bonuses.

They took huge risks (more than any of their costumers) but they are unwilling to share in the pain.

When the **** hits the fan, they hire in heavies to collect goods using whatever means necessary including intimadion.

Then when someone stands up to these guys he is branded a loon.

Well, they switched from lending Irish savings to German Savings. That's when things started to go crazy.

if someone made you strip off and get in a pen with a boar what would you call him?

And who benefited from all this credit that was out there? would you take out a loan if you knew you couldnt repay it, I know I certainly wouldnt. just because your offered something doesnt mean you have to accept it. Is the signature on the bottom line who is ultimately responsible and who made the decision to accept it.

Maybe I was just brought up the hard way, where we had to borrow for any extra investment we put into our farm and my god the satisfaction that you get from paying the last installment of a loan and standing back then and saying thats now mine certainly works for me.

I have the same attitude to you when it come to borrowing money but not every body does.

If a man walked in off the street during the boom with any sort of a business plan with off the wall projections and unrealistic costs.
The man sitting across the desk would know full well that this guy was digging a hole for himself.
If they were doing their job properly every business plan would have been fully costed and stress tested and some of these guys would have been told no, sorry but thanks for calling in.
But they went ahead and gave it out to these guys anyway and now they are coming down heavy on them now and are not willing to share the blame.

Its worth noting that the debt collectors were never stripped or forced to enter the pen. They were told too. Allegedly.

From my own expierence with these agencies they are predominantly run by ruthless thugs with little respect or empathy for anyone else.
The manner which I've seen them go about their business has shocked and disgusted me.
I would not put perjury above anyone involved in this industry.

I'll watch this case with interest but I can say for certain that its not as clear cut as either of the parties maintain it is.

There is a localish case going on at the moment, man has supposedly made every attempt to repay the bank, its a bit strange as he never made any attempt to pay much of his neighbours and anyone that done work for him in the past. And they say a leopard doesnt change its spots. He has gotten plenty of support for lefties and the gun runners

I agree completly with bob on this one. we all got offered silly money, the credit cards, the new jeeps and mortgages, everyone got caught including myself. at the end of the day I BLEW THE MONEY. if we all analyzed our fine print like pudsey does his feeding regime then none of us would be in trouble with repossesions or debt collectors.
I am not saying the banks are completly faultless or the government for that matter but seriously we all need to realize it was both stupidity and greed on all our parts. It doesnt belong to us till we have paid what we agreed.

Unfortunatly this is where we fell down. We were neither offered these so called easy loans and didnt apply for them as we felt our business was under enough pressure to repay what we had out. I regret it to this day that we didnt look for mega bucks

Wasn't there a case like this in Wexford where perjury on behalf of one of the repo guys was proven and this was then used to get another case thrown out involving the same crew in the West of Ireland?

That rings a bell alright. TBH I've so many stories of Debt Agencies floating around my head that I sometimes mix them up.

But, if I'm right the Repo guys threatened the "Man in the East" and he pulled an unloaded shotgun out of his jeep to protect himself.
The Repo guys claimed they hadn't threatened him. Something that the court found hard to believe because of one of the Repo men being convicted of assault earlier in the year during a similar altercation with a third party.

I think that was what happened but I might be a bit muddled there.

i cant understand some people, i wouldn't show my face if i owed some one money and didnt pay up - i admit i had a heart attack when debt collection agency rang me but that was a total oversight, and that was only 140 euro- we all know people who buy stuff and dont pay, got loans in the boom years and now cant pay... alot of them are getting what they deserve dont borrow what you cant afford
