    Crazy value. Great spot.

Mad the amount of people on Amazon giving it bad reviews because its not the extended version. Get over it

The quality of the transfers on these is meant to be really poor that's why the price keeps on dropping

The one I got is not even full screen, I have tried 4:3, 16:9, 16:10 or whatever it is but still not in full screen :(

Anyone know how to fix this?

Don't know what TV you have, but if you have a smart setting in the aspect ratio settings ,give that a try.

This DVD box set is not great, video quality poor, one should get the extended versions.

It's a good price for the movies, but yeah the quality of these transfers is absolutely terrible. The overly severe noise reduction leads to image quality well below that of the DVDs, not to mention the problems with the green hue, colour correction etc.

Ordered it there... is it really worse than the regular dvd?

Yes. There's a good few screen comparisons between version when the reviews first came out.

I'll see I guess... dont own the ordinary dvd set and this is cheaper so I'm not too worried.

It isn't worse than the DVD. It is a lot better.

However it is not on the level that a blockbuster Bluray should be. The PQ is blurry with not much fine detail. When the Extended Edition came out you saw how it should have and could have looked.

For £9 its still decent enough.

The quality isn't bad. Its just not up to some Blu Ray transfers.

But if it was me. I'd avoid these and get the Extended edition.

TTT and ROTK are fine in either version. But there's no escaping transfer issues with FOTR. Both the theatrical and extended editions of the film have problems.

What are the major differences between extended and normal?

How could they have botched up the Blu Ray edition? I thought the process of the transfer would be automated at this stage? Im obvious mistaken but still how had can it be?

Some brilliant scenes are not in the theatrical version.

The stand off between Gandalf and the WitchKing was disgracefully cut from the theatrical version.

They say it ships in 6-9 days but with DVDs and Blurays they often come back into stock quicker than expected.

I would just order it and if it doesnt ship by about the 20th then cancel the order.

FWIW - the Extended Editions suffered much worse on Blu-ray. This hideous green hue haunts them.

Extended are the left, Theatrical are the right:

Make up your own mind, but I watched the Theatrical Editions during the week on Blu-ray and they look far better IMO.

Saw The Hobbit on Thursday, also excellent BTW.

I picked up the theatrical version of the trilogy on DVD for the kids for £5 in Sainsbury in Newry after watching the Hobbit (really good btw). They also had the blu ray set for £10.
