Can anyone help, we have an Opel Vectra which has recently had a flat battery and can't use the radio. We contacted Opel who say we have to bring the car into the garage. Is there a way we can do it ourselves?

    Thanks in advance

It should be a straightforward matter of getting the code from the dealer after you give them the reg number and/ or vin. It's usually a 4 digit number which you enter using the numbered pad on the radio. I have done this myself, but with a differet maker. Rang them up, gave the reg and got the code, there and then, no charge! Seems like Opel want to make a few bob!

Before you go there, have a look in the car manual/service book etc
Often the code is hand written there in notes. Could be anywhere really.

Renault charged me 20 euro for a code for mine, not sure if Opel does, but woudn't be suprised at all.

Opel charge for the code last year it was 25 euro
bit of a gimmick as they are only looking up the information on their computer system.

My brother had this problem with his Focus a few years ago..
He went onto e-bay and some guy offers the service to unlock the code..
    Think it was €5

These is a charge from Opel to the dealers for the radio codes, so you'll get charged for am Opel. Can't even get them free from our internal Opel dealership.

May be a long shot, but might it be worth pulling the radio out and checking it for a sticker or similar with the code on it. Maybe a previous owner did so, if there was one. I know it defeats the whole purpose of having a code, but some people actually do this. Otherwise do you know who the previous owner was? Would they have the code?
