IT is the confusion between December 2012, 12/12/12, and December 21/12/12, for some reason they are all kicking off, timeline and it was meant to be, confucius says hide.

What the **** is going on with the world? Hopefully this guy will be locked up for a long time, though knowing the chinese he'll be executed fairly quickly.

Excuse me OP, your hyperlink is neither hyper or a link.

That notwithstanding, at least no-one was killed, disgusting crime none the less.

China has a history of child stabbings for some reason, just like school shootings in the US.
    Two years ago:
China has suffered two more attacks against young children, in an unprecedented spate of violence that has seen eight incidents in just over a month.

Number of people who died from today's gun attack? 27

Number who died from today's knife attack? 0

    Exactly

Of course this gets overlooked because it's not America.

Very true. I hope those kids are okay.

I was just thinking that - it's only China so that's ok.

No motive was given for the stabbings, which echo a string of similar assaults against schoolchildren in 2010 that killed nearly 20 and wounded more than 50. The most recent such attack took place in August, when a knife-wielding man broke into a middle school in the southern city of Nanchang and stabbed two students before fleeing.

Most of the attackers have been mentally disturbed men involved in personal disputes or unable to adjust to the rapid pace of social change in China, underscoring grave weaknesses in the antiquated Chinese medical system's ability to diagnose and treat psychiatric illness.

In one of the worst incidents, a man described as an unemployed, middle-aged doctor killed eight children with a knife in March 2010 to vent his anger over a thwarted romantic relationship.

You cant pick the two incidents to compare just because they happened the same day .
There have been knife attacks with huge fatalities . If this fella had a gun he probably wouldnt have killed anyone anyway .
It just shows bad mass murderers will murder whether they have legal guns or not .

You were the one who drew the comparison in the first place. Of course there will be incidents like this whether there are guns or not, but it's a hell of a lot easier to kill a large number of people will a semi/automatic gun than it is with, say, a knife or a musket.

You could always lock the doors and set the place alight . Guns arnt the problem .
There needs to be checklists for parents to spot this in their children . Mental health facilities for these people need to get something sorted . They always end up with some problems that were ignored or not spotted .
Like the batman lunatic that had a letter describing his antics in a letter sitting in the school brain doctors office for days .
You could spend alot of time and money and political support banning guns but thats not the issue here .

There will always be lone maniacs who want to kill people or watch the world burn. You can certainly try and improve mental health facilities, etc., but really there will always be these kind of people. A certain percentage of the population are psychopaths. In some countries, they'll jump in a car and try to mow people down, in others they'll try and stab as many people as they can. In America, where there is virtually no barrier to someone getting a gun, and in many states they're not even committing a crime until they open fire, and the choice available to you includes automatic weapons - they'll tend to opt for the gun.

There is no reason why someone would need to own a machine gun, and in this case there is no reason why someone would need to own 4x pistols. If guns are for self-defense purposes or hunting, then a Daniel Boone rifle will do. But the reality is that America is just a gun culture, they have a fetish for guns - they just like them. And they have an out-dated article in their constitution to help them defend that. As though the the right to bear arms is right up there with the right to bodily integrity or the right to freedom of expression.

Machine guns are very useful if one needs to defend their country . America are fighting alot of wars . Can you promise these people they will never get attacked on home soil .
There is also the arguement that if you take the guns away the polititians will not fear/respect their people.

I'd like to know the full story here. How did he manage to individually stab 22 kids without anyone stopping him?

If he had a gun he probably would of killed a lot more

Edit: Did any of these victims die? No? Then your point is moot

Apparently it happened at the school gates and two people did tackle him.

How paranoid are you? (or maybe how paranoid do you think Americans actually are?)

That's the USA. In China there are a lot of these school killings, normally by mentally ill men. There is not enough access to mental health, which is the only thing the US and China have in this context.

Curtailing gun ownership in the USA will go some way towards lowering casualties.

    Apologies for being off topic.

Yeah, everyone should be tooled up? What the US needs are more paranoid militia types. That's exactly it.:rolleyes:

I think the numbers are so high in america because of the culture and them wanting to be the one that kills the most .
They will find other ways for mass murder if guns were banned .

Here is a link to an article in The Guardian Link
A knife-wielding man injured 22 children and one adult outside a primary school in central China as students were arriving for classes, police say, the latest in a series of attacks at Chinese schools and kindergartens.

    ......

A Guangshan county hospital administrator said the man first attacked an elderly woman, then pupils, before security guards subdued him.

    .

Indeed it would. That hoary old 'guns don't kill people - people kill people' ignores a significant point - guns enable people to kill lots of people very quickly from a distance.

it has been reported Lanza had
a Sig Sauer and a Glock, both handguns, and said police also found at the scene a Bushmaster .223 M4 carbine, a rifle, that they believe belonged to him
    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2012/1215/breaking1.html

No comparison with a knife and imho it is both tasteless and disingenuous of some posters to use the tragic events in China to justify a 20 year old having access to serious, military grade, weapons designed for efficient distance killing and nothing else.

Americans worry that a gun wielding person will invade their homes/ threaten their families so they buy guns...

Citizens of countries with strict gun control do not generally fear this...

Wonder if there could possibly be a connection?

Yes the gun sellers want people to feel scared .

Yes the gun sellers want people to feel scared .

But the U.S. in one of the few places that allows a powerful industrial lobby to advocate that their product be freely available as people need to protect themselves from other people who already have - and may use - their product.

Unlike knives which have many uses - guns have only two. To kill or wound. As my American cousin found out when he used the butt of his legally owned hand gun as a hammer and shot himself in the leg - eejit forgot he had a round chambered. He has yet to explain why he had a round chambered or was out in the yard of his suburban home (where his kids were playing) with a loaded gun...

He doesnt need to explain....he has the right to bear arms, it doesnt say you have to have the intelligence to bear arms.

Difference being of course there was no death in the China incident while 27 people including 18 children dies in the US.

America's domestic defence is fairly unstoppable at this point in time. Invading forces would probably be wiped out before they made it to their shores so a conventional invasion is rather implausible.

The right to bear arms is the problem.

His wife believes he needs to explain why he had a loaded gun (he needs it for work) with him on a Summer's day while playing in the yard with his kids...
Especially when she thinks about the fact that he just missed a major artery in his leg and their 10 year old son was standing next to him. If the gun was at a slightly different angle....
