"A basketball fan is fighting for his life after being shot in an argument with supporters of a rival team.

The 35-year-old man was critically ill in hospital today after being hit in the stomach.

A second man who was standing nearby was said to be in a stable condition after being struck in the leg by the same bullet.

The two Chicago Bulls fans were travelling on a train after their team's clash with the Philadelphia 76ers when the incident happened.

Police the two men had been exchanging in "a little bit of banter" with two teenage 76ers fans.

Lieutenant John Walker told CBS Philly: "The 35-year-old says ‘listen man, this train’s filled with people, there’s young kids, there’s ladies in here, you need to watch your mouth young boy.’

"Of course, that escalates it a little further and we have a 30-year-old male who’s on the train, who’s behind the 35-year-old who says ‘listen it’s not worth it, these young boys, just let’s cool out."

Walker said when the train stopped, the teens got off the train, and one of them turned and fired a shot into the train-car. The bullet hit both the 35-year-old and 30-year-old.

He added: “You can have disagreements, but the answer isn’t pulling out a gun and firing and trying to resolve it. It doesn’t make you a bigger man, it doesn’t make you a better person, it makes you an idiot.”

Detectives are hunting the gunman and the second suspect."

Philadelphia has the highest douche-bag concentration of any city in the USA. I've attended sporting events there, and I can only wish a 9-11 type event on the city.

That's the nicest thing that I can say about Philadelphia.

I was once approached in a bar there and asked to leave because I had a foreign accent. The name of the bar was The Irish Pub!

Philidelphia...."The City of Brotherly Love". Its where the declaration of American Independence was signed,it has some of the oldest buildings in America and Rocky was set there.It is an absolutely beautiful city which has only one flaw......It is full of ....... Americans

I was there a few years back and had a ball. Really good time and the locals were very friendly. Pretty much like any city in the states to be honest. And as mentioned a city steeped in history.

I tried to attend a sporting event but the Phillies were busy winning the World Series!
