I have not applied to the CAO before and was just wondering I put my pps number down but there is no place to put the course code down. Can they get the results through my pps number or whats the story there.

The majority of the queries here relate to assessment for May/June. FETAC have a number of assessment times during the year and usually the numbers at other times are considerably lower so have some patience with your centre or FETAC if you are trying to contact them. I dont work for FETAC but I do know the amount of queries they have to deal with.

Once you hand up your work it is corrected by your teacher and then internally within the centre (whether that is a public or private centre) it may be checked again (verified) by a another teacher of the same module or a senior manager or it is discussed with other teachers within the course at exam or course meetings.

At this stage provisional results are then entered on the FETAC system by the centre co-ordinator but do remember that these can and do change more often than most people think. The centre then appoints an External Authenticator EA or External Examiner EE – there are some differences to their role but that isn’t relevant here.

At this stage some centres will give you a letter for potential employers or other organisations. But this is only the centre assisting you, not official requirement of the centre.

Once the EA or EE checks the work the results are confirmed on the FETAC system – changed from provisional to confirmed. They are then issued by FETAC to the centres in mid to late July. At the same time the results with your PPS number as your exam number is also sent to the CAO. Generally there is no need for the students or the centre to send the results to the CAO. Some CAO offers are made before Round 1 in Round Zero and some are made at the same time depending on which links system you are entitled to use. This is only for FETAC results and not any other qualification.

Once the results arrive in the centre in late July they are then sent to the students. There are thousands of thousands of results ranging from students who are doing one subject or module (minor or component award) to those doing a full award (Major Award – at least 8 modules). The centres work as quickly as possible and get them out – they must deal with anything up to 10,000 pieces of paper and ensure that each student gets the correct results – it is not like the Leaving Certificate where there might be 100 students sitting the exam in the school. The fact that your college is closed for the summer doesn’t mean that the administration staff are off, just the teaching staff.

One piece of advice – if you have an issue or query with your FETAC results put it in writing to the centre as telephone calls etc are only verbal accounts of your problem, always attach a copy of your results and any other documentation.

    Finally best of luck.

Be aware that there are several changes in FETAC courses so alot of the information I posted so check with your Career Guidance Counsellor and ask them to review your application to the CAO.
