Great to see Rory supporting Paul for 2014.

I'd much prefer to see Paul V Tom over Darren.

Let Darren take them to the US.

Tom Watson  Never saw that coming. Total legend and one of my all time favourites, but desperation from the Americans? Or an inspired choice?

    I'm not sure yet.

Simple, if they win then inspired choice else desperation

    I think its inspired

as well as being well respected by current players Watson is very well liked and respected in Scotland and it might tone down the crowd a bit

I think you're spot on here. That was my first impression too. Aside from the love in of Turnberry in 2009, there was the duel in the sun of '77 and he has won four of his five Opens in Scotland. Even in Ryder Cup atmosphere it's hard to see a whole lot of negative vibes from the Scotties towards him. That said, the Ryder Cup does essentially all boil down to a bit of steel from individual players and a hot putter over 18 holes. Still, as a tactic, a shrewd move I would say.

Some of the reports were quoting that Watson had been approached over a year ago, and when he was asked about it at the recent news conference all he said was that it was nice to get a tap on the shoulder.

He will certainly bring a dignity to the role and has been keeping an eye on and playing with the top tour pros a number of times every year. I welcome his Captaincy and feel that he is well respected, especially in Scotland, and has the best traditions of golf at heart.

It will be interesting to see how it all works against McGinley/Clarke/? in Gleneagles in 2014

Hoping that they announce the next two captains McGinley and Clarke in Jan. think Clarke would be a better away Captain
