    Hi All,

I want to tint my fogs blue, black or yellow

My question is, is the film tint the best? Its purely aesthetic

    Thanks

    Gar

Eh fog lights are for driving in fog, not designed to be tinted.

Id say the film is the best job, quite expensive for the right stuff though. As long as the light isn't proper blue coming out you won't have any bother from the guards.

Last time I tinted lights, I dismantled the lamp and painted the inside with amber lamp then sealed it all up again :)

I've put a yellow film on mine, got it off ebay. Very sticky stuff and still on months later.

I just bought yellow 2500K bulbs which work really well in the fog and retains the original look of the factory lights.

surely he can tint them and have them looking better for when there is no fog. They are still fitted to the car even when there is no fog out. Just because he tints them dose not mean he will be driving with them on..

might not be possible with a lot of modern sealed units though.. or at least without a lot of work!

Laminx is very good. Can be tricky to work on to dome shaped lamps though. You will need to heat it slightly.

He can tint them or have them looking better for when there is no fog. Tinted foglights will look about as clever as square wheels.

I've tinted my fogs slightly and there's actually nearly no difference once they're on, but they look better when they're off.

Also in reality, I've had to use my fogs once in 13 months of owning the car. Generally there is no need to have them on at all, contrary to what the majority of people seem to think in this country...

If you say so. IMO nothing looks better for having its performance deliberately degraded.

    That's true enough.

Wouldn't coloured bulbs be easiest to fit and last longest?

Im guessing the op wants the tint on the lights even when they are switched off?? Will coloured bulbs do that?

Yep this is what I want I want that HID/yellow spots look

I have bought that yellow film to put over the light so its yellow even when its off, its sticky but also handy of you want to take it off for a sale for example

I looked at those HB4 yellow bulbs, although they would be ideal when the lights are on and all it wouldnt be the same if lights were off, the look would be gone

To those who have tinted their lights with this yellow film, I havnt got a chance t otake outthe housing for the spot light I am planning on doing it this evening, would I need cable ties or tape to hold it on? Or is it genuinely stuck when on

there be nothing worse than driving along with half a yellow spot and not realising, now THAT would be embarrassing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭ghogie91

Right so I just tried putting the film over my spots..... it turned out unbelievably bad... the spots are like curved so the bubbles are shocking

Im going to go for the yellow bulbs, absolutely raging over the film that it didnt work AT ALL

where could I pick up yellow bulbs, think for my 06 passat they are HB4 9006

do you paint the bulb with it or the actual spot light housing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,088 ✭✭✭sean1141

Did you heat the film and stretch it over the light. It's not as easy as just laying it down especially on a curved light

Spot light housing. Like in my earlier post, I dismantled the lamp and painted the inside. You're really meant to paint the outside though

    Like window tint I'd imagine

Any decent motor factors should stock it and if not ask for an alternative make, they all do much the same job :)

t:Worse than window tint as it's usually heavier. I tried tinting the fogs on the leon but I couldn't because I hadn't enough to stretch over it. There are guides on youtube on how to do it. If the passat lights are anything like the ones on the leon they can't be took apart without cutting them open!

I used a heat gun and carefully scraped out the glue before the lens popped out.

Would have to take more abuse so heavier made!
